Synthetic oils

Anyone use synthetic oil in the 4.7L?

How about the gear lube in the diffs? What mulitweight do you use? I use Mobil 1 75W-140 in my Jeep diffs because I often tow utility trailers.

Is this a serious question? If so of course people run synthetic oils in their 4.7 motors...why wouldn't they?

Diffs / transfer 75W90.

Sorry for the naïve noob question. I didn't know if 4Runners had any quirks whereby synthetic oils were a no-no. Better to look like a bonehead on an internet forum than be very sorry.

There isn't an engine made that you CAN'T use synthetic oil on. Synthetic oil is oil...just with all the impurities removed and very consistent size of molecules.

In MOST cases synthetic is NOT needed. There have been MILLIONS of cars around the world that have over 300k miles without using one drop of synthetic oil.

Main reasons to use synthetic oil.
. Manufacturer requires it. You'll find this mainly in turbo-charged or super-charged engines.
. Problem with engine design. Like the 1999 thru 2001 Toyota V6 engines that would sludge up.
. Extreme cold climate.
. A lot of towing.

For my 4runner I use synthetic. During the winter we do a lot of skiing and there are times we've woken up to -30f in the White mountains. Most conventional motor oil is like peanut butter at that temps. Plus I do a lot of towing during the summer.

My wifes Lexus I just use conventional oil. I did on her two Accords. Last I knew both lasted well past 400k miles.

I'm a fan of coconut oil. Plus afterwards I have leftover coconut halves and if I clap them together just right the 4runner sounds like a galloping horse.

dude, that is genius, I like it a lot. I bet coconut oil smells good too. How many coconuts do you need on a weekly basis and where do you store them in the engine bay?
