T-belt relacement ?

Just picked up my runner yesterday and loving it (exept for the seats) and I saw on the t-belt cover that it was replaced in 2005 at 94,000. It currently has 115k on it but should I replace it due to age? New on the Toyotas so take it easy:lever:

All my recent cars have had chains so I am rusty...BTW I work for BMW so if anyone needs help on those or other German cars feel free to hit me up!

I think age is stronger factor when determining whether or not to replace a t belt... I'd do it... Or at minimum inspect it

I think you're good to go for a while.. Mine has 170k and still on the original. Not saying I'm not replacing it soon but you're probably good to go.

dont bother with it, your water pump will start peeing before you need a new belt... and even if for some ungodly reason the belt did break or strip, its a non interference motor so nothing will happen other than the motor just stops running...
-this is the given assumption that you have the 3.4l v6

Good to know...

I've replaced timing belts in situations like yours in the past and basically wasted my money. Like they said above its a non interference so just drive it and forget about it.

I changed my original belt at 10 years and 120k. It looked to be in perfect condition. As driving conditions in NJ and CT are pretty similar, I'd say you could run yours out to 12 years, no sweat. As stated, your WP will probably go before that.

I'll keep you in mind when I work on my youngest son's e36 'vert.

You are getting some good advice! I'd recommend saving your money for now as well. I replace a lot of timing belts based on age and for the most part it serves the customer with the piece of mind that they have stayed by the book. I'd recommend otherwise if it were an interference engine like most Subaru, VW, Saturn, Kia, Hyundai, etc products but its not and there is a greater chance you will need to service something behind the timing cover that requires belt removal before the belt itself requires attention and if so that would be a great time to replace it without additional labor costs. Just my humble opinion!

Im glad i read this! because when i bought my truck he was not sure if it had been done because he would just drop it of with his dads friend to do all maintenance who was a toyota tech, so im pritty sure it has been done! i have just been telling my self what was said above but i feel better knowing others think that way to!

Thanks everyone, guess I'll check on the water pump. I also haven't received the service records yet, but I pick those up tomorrow so I will learn more then. I only have one pic of my E36 vert here at work, but they are my favorites and I am good with replacing the nightmare top straps, plastic windows, and other issues....heres an older pic of mine (at work no more pics), still have it w/ about 50k on it...

lightweight?

Wait, no... has a sunroof... E36 is my fav body style... my buddy has an E90 he went and did the customer pickup in Germany
