Heck...If you get it done, maybe I'll follow suit!!! I'd love to get that type flex!!
I have an idea that they use on heeps... Err jeeps. make a longer lower trailing arm for the rear, then make the upper connect on that arm. No worry about the gas tank then. Weld some mounts and run coilovers. Kind of like this picture here. uploadfromtaptalk1446142429769.jpg

Now, are you talking about mounting the coilover in the same place as the stock spring?
Undecided. I need to measure how much room between the frame and tire. But with this lower control arm setup it seems like it would leave room to play.

I would think it would be easier to mount it there and weld on a mount to the axle. Plus, you could get more down travel with it mounted there too. I know on the Jeep in that link I posted had the coilovers mounted close to where our shocks mount. I guess I can see the pros and cons of both mounting points....

I bet I could get some crazy travel with long arms in that setup, and it would be relatively easy to set it all up. Figuring out how to tune the coilovers is what has me worried. I don't have the slightest clue about them. Lol
With coilovers you could adjust ride height easily, Change spring rates, adjust everything for what you need. 4-5" of rear lift, long travel, and 37's would be pretty damn sick!
Would be much easier with leaf Springs though.... Lol

True! Leafs are going to be much cheaper though! If you end up doing the rear, what are you going to do to the front to get it up that high??

At first, rough country 6" FJ cruiser lift. Later when this isn't a DD SAS.
37s with ifs is pushing it. We have strong components, but getting into 1 ton territory with tires that size. Thinking Tundra rear later with undecided front of equal strength. Tundra has same abs sensors, so it pays nice with our computers.

I forgot all about the 6" FJ lift! Now that would be a good looking rig! I'll be watching your build and waiting:snacker:

I'm going to get the lift and use my Bilsteins up front at first, then later when I have the money buy the icon coilovers that are made for that lift. You can adjust 5-8" of lift with those coilovers too.

Is there a full article on that vehicle, or just a pic? I'd like to do some serious reading on that!
I've been trying to find something. All I've been able to find is stuff for airbagged street vehicles with a 2 link. I don't think it can be considered a 2 link, but maybe? I need to pull my computer out. It has a broken charging port so I haven't had it out lately. Just not the same looking things up on the phone! Lol

Put my rear FJ coils in today. Gained a solid inch especially with putting the inner bump stops in that I had mistakenly tossed when I put the lift on originally. uploadfromtaptalk1446248516341.jpguploadfromtaptalk1446248535942.jpg
My son holding the old ones like captain Morgan.

Ride seems better. Hard to tell really, but it doesn't seem to hop over chatter bumps now.

Started working on getting the front spacer in. Set my Bilsteins at. 85 to try and get 3.5" of lift, checked my cv axle and it binds up so will pull it apart in the morning and set the shocks on the bottom setting. I don't know how guys are running over 3" of lift, my cv boots were touching the shock mount too. Maybe a dif drop helps?? uploadfromtaptalk1446248850863.jpguploadfromtaptalk1446248869342.jpg

Dayum, that's a serious size spacer you have on there!!!

On the shock or the wheel? Wheel adapters are 2" thick but with the offset of the wheel I only get 1.5" wider stance out of them. The strut spacer is a 3" spacer. So that will give me another half inch in height. My front springs are still the stock ones and are sagging pretty bad so I was hoping to put the shocks on the first lift setting and getting just over 3" of lift, but oh well. One of these days I'll be able to step it up to the 6" lift.

Was referring to your top hat spacer. Guess it's better than a preload spacer, but, that's what your shocks do being adjustable. More travel, articulation, the way you have it.

Yeah, them springs just sag away for sure. When I had the 3" spacer lift and changed to
3" spring lift, I must have gained another 1"+.

I bet! I gained an inch in the rear shoving this FJ coils in. 1 1/4 to be exact.
That's what I thinking. More articulation, maybe a little softer ride even though it's not bad by any means. I wish I could have the shocks set at .85 with that spacer but I max out my drop to often to have the cv binding up.
