T4R 2008 hood scoop on a 2005...

Hello everyone!

Im new to the forum and very proud to own a 2005 sport edition T4R. My model didn't came with the hood scoop which I love, but lucky me I had the opportunity to purchase a 2008 T4R hood scoop with the grill for a descent price.
I know theres differences between the two models like the headlights, bumper, grill and the small piece underneath the headlights.
I assume the grill is interchangeable but Im not sure yet.

My question is if this will be a straight forward swap or if theres anything else I need to do. I have tried to research this information but haven't found much.

Any help will definitely be appreciated, thanks!!!

I have to ask, do you know why your 4runner sport didn't have the right hood on it when you bought/ inherited it? anywho...

1st post... the grills are not an exact swap but its been done by someone on here...look around, I think it's one of the moderators, I remember it being a silver 4runner I think that did it..... the hoods, I believe are a direct swap but I'm simply guessing because I have never tried it. you could always look on rockauto to see if it's the same part number for a 2005 sport hood as a 2008 sport hood.. that'd be a good indication on compatibility before you start unbolting stuff.
 
Some t4r sport model didn't came with the hood scoop (i dont know why) however, my hood is the oem with matching vin#. I tried searching for this mod here but couldn't find anything... :frusty:

That's the first I've ever heard that about a 4th gen and I've owned once since they first came out in 2003. Do a search in the 4th gen section, this exact topic was covered the other day. Also, post pics of your truck. I'd like to see a Sport without a scooped hood.
 
I'm going to guess the hood is identical, someone correct me if I'm wrong, and the 05 grille will fit on it perfect. if you want to use the 08 grille, you either cut the bumper so the grille doesn't hit it, or modify the grille(cut the bottom) so it doesn't hit the bumper. I have 06-09 grille on my 04, modified. good luck
 
This is my 1st t4r and did allot of research before buying this one. I really wished that mine came with the scoop but it didn't. I will love to post pictures but I don't know how.

I cant find that post you are talking about on the 4gen section...

I just went through the 03, 04, and 05 brochures and would have kept going but his falls into that section of the 4th gens... They all said that the scoop was standard for the sport. Nothing mentioned it was optional. That's not to say that a dealer might have switched a hood or two to make a non sport customer's deal happen since the customer really wanted a scoop w/o paying for a sport. As far as VIN stickers go... they're stickers.

Like wyanrard quote, its a rare sport edition not that many were made. Its not a big deal, I just want to see if this 08 sport hood swap is possible.
 
I understand what you're saying. However, for someone that doesn't know enough about the truck to know which bumper/grille fits which years without modifying stuff, you understand why I'd be skeptical when you say you know that yours is a "rare" sport edition without documents or facts to back it up. You could be right, but, I'd want to see proof.

Pretty positive it was dealer optioned like you said. So not really a rare 4th gen, just a rare option. [MENTION=97032]hearno[/MENTION]

I never said it was a dealer option to delete a factory equipped trim piece. I said it wouldn't surprise me if a dealer took a sport hood and switched it with a same color SR5 or limited hood to make a customer happy and sell a car. I know a 5th gen owner recently posted that he didn't like the rims on the truck and his dealer switched them out for TE rims to get him to make the purchase. I know I'd be a pissed off TE owner if it had the stupid limited 20s on it as I would be a pissed off sport owner if it was missing the scoop.
 
Please lets stay on topic, I really care less if my t4r is rare or not. I just need some info on this 08 hood on my 05.

Hood will fit fine, if you want the 05 grille, you can keep it without any modification , just have to transfer it over to the new hood. If you want to use the grille off the 08 on your 05, you'll most likely either have to cut into the bumper cover, or trim the newer grille itself.

I forgot to mention the 08 hood is black and my car is like a charcoal blue. I was thinking about painting the hood the same color but ive seen t4r with black sport hoods and I kinda like that look too. If the hood was red, white, silver or any other color it will be a no brainer - Not to mention I will be saving money too - Lol
