T4R 4-wheel drive issue, 1999

Is it possible for HL4 to engage but not H4? I put my 1999 in 4 wheel drive for it's monthly maintenance and I didn't notice a difference in difficulty turning or turning radius while in H4 vs. 2 wheel drive. I did notice a difference in
HL4. Thanks.

I have heard of problems with the electric shifted 4wd but since H4 has the center diff maybe it's just that the center diff is doing it's job and that's why you aren't feeling any binding or difficulty turning?

I've always noticed a difference in H4 before. That's what has me puzzled. I appreciate the help.

Your 4Runner has ADD or is it AAD

Basically two things happen when you go to either 4wd mode. 1) The t-case sends power to both driveshafts. 2) The right front axle shaft is "made whole". Perhaps that mechanism has failed and the front axle isn't being "made whole".
