I SEE What happened here

It seems to me that I am moving against a current here.
It looks that all of us love our 4Runners a lot! And I just insulted everyone with comments that seem to belittle the truck.
I am sorry for that. I wanted to expose a FLAW that is all.

Terrible flaw that fries your ECM and is very scary. And I do blame TOYOTA for it!

This seemingly little flaw will render the whole truck into a pile of junk.
I am only talking about 2003. Maybe it was fixed in later years. PLEASE tell me the connector was relocated.
and if it was: I am CORRECT.

Here is a pair of keyboards Apple and DELL Latitude (Pro Line):
See anything different? Well Apple's is MORE Expensive.

If you pay attention to the Dell keyboard there is a little hole, that is connected to a channel in the body that carries a spill away fries cheap keyboard and SAVES the computer! While not all spills are the same Dell (on it's professional line) tries to help as much it can.

This is what I was expecting from Toyota. Little help, small things.
I know its a luxury vehicle, but still others knew it, why not Toyota.

You're still blaming the manufacturer for a mistake on your part, I think that is what most people are puzzled by

And then two sentences later, declaring the T4R as "a pile of junk". Are you mentally disturbed, or suffering from a severe case of schizophrenia or possibly a scorching case of bipolar disorder?

Maybe locating the ECU/electronic hardware wasn't an option? Maybe they knew only 1% of 4Runner/Surf owner take their rig off road?? There are a lot of improvements Toyota could've made to the N210 platform, but it would've most likely made the Runner a more expensive SUV.

Again, only a Toyota Engineer (and most likely an accountant) can answer that.

Also, IF Toyota made the changes you want to see, I still doubt it would've stood up to a pressure washer. You still would've fried your electronics. My 2 cents.

In addtition, this poster has never heard of a T4R owner every "frying" their ECM... er, aside from you. I've owned several trucks and SUV's, and thus far, the T4R has been the most reliable, well built, on and off road capable vehicles for me thus far. When I was doing the OEM NAV mod, I noticed '03-05 and '06-09 owners pretty much had the same electronic hardware only the pins/wires were a bit different. That is all. I could be wrong though................ So I don't think Toyota changed the location of the hardware you speak of.

I can confirm that in 2006 the Toy engineers fixed this potentially fatal flaw...

In fact they predicted that sometime in the future someone would powerwash their car and they really hoped that they would first do the research and buy the updated model. Alas, 8 years later, a lexus nut proved them right and wrong.

We accidentally washed my son's Sony Xperia in a pocket of his pants.

And who was at fault there? Sony, or you? The exact same logic applies to your post - just as the Xperia wasn't designed to be put in a washing machine, the 4Runner wasn't designed to have a high pressure stream of water sprayed into the cabin. One would think that even a person with the thickest of skulls could grasp that concept.

Actually a Jeep owner suggested it to me. I thought 4runner was better than a Jeep.

Since you listened to the suggestion of the heep owner, did you let him know what happened? How hard did he laugh?

4Runners are better than heeps, if you would have taken better care of yours it would last way after his heep was dead.

Toyota has made one of the best SUV's to ever hit the pavement and dirt for that matter. When you see mileage that hits 600k thats pretty damn impressive. If I remember right Toyota is the #1 selling auto maker in the world.

unless you were doing a FULL restoration by which you may have been 1/2 way there. then i do see ya pressure washing it out. AFTER TAKING out seats, molding, dash, & ELECTRONICS etc etc.... to prep for washing out, welding in floors or roll cage priming then spraying a coating of some sort. but good old rags and hands would have been better!!!
