AAh, don't feel bad. We all do things that seem insignificant when in fact they are catastrophic. This "flaw" I understand, but like I said before, it's not a REAL problem, but it would be cool to see "sealed" electronics in keeping with the "spirit" of the 4Runner, but that will never happen. Again, I don't consider it a flaw, but a detail that would have been nice if Toyota put a little thought into it.

I made such a mistake a few years ago. When installing my retros, I VERY STUPIDLY put in a 30amp fuse into the 10amp slot for the lights. I had become frustrated because they wouldn't light, thus my train of thought lapsed. That lapse (frustration) led to a $7500 bill to replace the main wire harness/an injector and some other harness that had to be special ordered from Japan. Oh, and a new battery. Anyway, my Runner was at the dealer for more than 2 months. Did I learn my lesson? GODDAMN BETTER BELIEVE IT. (go ahead everyone, flame me, I don't give 2 shits).

I haven't walked away from doing mods though. :hat: I approach them a lot differently than I did before.

But a wrong fuse is a common mistake power washing the inside of a vehicle is not :wave:

Online research, Dug through manuals, Hunting for parts on Junk yards and Ebay. TALK about frustration, and I am giving it all FREE here to my all 4Runner friends and what do I get in return?

Mine's an '06 with the relocated and waterproofed ECM, so I can powerwash at will. :cowboy:

Do you also fix computers with them powered up or do you at least turn them off? When was the last time you powerwashed your computer?

So Im just wondering exactly where this low ECU connector is exactly . Id like to seal that thing up since ive actually taken some water in before, but guess what ? I got water in it doing crazy off road shit in the woods of new england and these things are absolute beasts in the snow, mud, and anything else when properly equipped. It seems like OP doesn't know how to work the 4 wd and center diff lock functions properly

Nobody is going to "flame you". You made a costly mistake, owed up to it and got it repaired. Did you come on this forum and rant about how stupid the Toyota engineers were and how crappy of an SUV that they designed? No.... The OP, however, did.

I can't reveal my sources, but i can confirm that exactly eight minutes after you posted your initial thread, the president of the toyota motor company in japan ordered the production lines shut down worldwide.

He then summoned every engineer to the auditorium for a mandatory meeting. The engineer who designed the interior of the 2003 4runner was then called up onto the stage and forced to commit ritual seppuku after confessing that his design was inadequate and brought shame upon the toyota name.

Following that meeting, the entire engineering department was split into two groups.

The first group was tasked with redesigning the ecu location in the 2003 4runner. Their final solution was a 12' tall (4 meter) mast located in the center of the roof with a waterproof box on top which contains every ecu in the vehicle. With this setup, the 4runner is capable of crossing an 11 1/2' deep stream without risking damage to the ecu. At the same time, the engineers designed shark repellent dispensers in the headlights.

The second (and larger) group was given the mission of designing a time machine to take the first group back to 2002 where all of the changes would be applied retroactively.

The good news is that you don't have to do anything, just wait and your 2003 4runner will automatically be retrofitted with the 12' mast and shark repellent dispensers without you even knowing it.

Even better, once this happens, this thread will disappear as if it had never existed, and all the brain cells i lost reading through it will be magically restored. :d
