Only one worse was the FJ with a drop of 64.7%.

The only Toyota products that saw an increase in July sales were the newly redesigned Corolla, Sequoia, TLC, and LX570.

Not sure how "similar" they are but sales of Commander, Grand Cherokee, and Durango took huge hits as well according to this info below I found on a Jeep site. Actually, I'm not even sure if they still make the Durango??

Finally been able to convince my wife that the T4R was better than her Honda Pilot.

IIRC, 4Runner sales have been trending downward for the last few years.
Unfortunately, this year 4Runner sales have declined at an increased rate due to gas prices and the downturn in the US economy.

One has to wonder if fuel prices and the US economy will influence the next generation 4Runner offered in the USA.
Time will tell I suppose.

I read in my latest Car and Driver that the 09 Toyota Highlander will come out with a 4 cyl. 2.4 engine in the 2wd mode. Maybe we will see the 2.7 engine again??? My guess is we might see a hybred type in the future.

Full time 4wd and a V-8 is what is killing the 4runner , When it first came out , All american junk was big v-8 with full time 4wd.
Toyota had a bulletproof 4cyc stick with good milage and sold like crazy.

The 4runner need to go back to its roots. Not a bigger motor with even worse milage.

I drove by a Toyota dealer yesterday (in Ohio) and while waiting at the stoplight I counted about thirty (30) 4Runners in the lot from my vantage point. Curious, I checked the dealer online and they had forty-nine (49) total listed in their inventory!! I can't remember ever seeing more than about 15 or so previously at this particular dealership until this summer.

Sure, NOW I can get any color I want.

True... no need for a V8 in a 4Runner... that's what that stupid Sequoia was for... useless...

I still have my 95, and the 2004 feels much bigger... it isn't necessary... I would LOVE to have that 4.0 V6 in my 1995... it would probably get awesome gas mileage, and actually have some power to move that thing... the 3VZE 3.0 V6 was just waaay too underpowered... no wonder the gas mileage sucked, I had my foot in it most of the time just to leave a stop light....

If toyota shrunk the TR4 a little, and kept that V6 with a nice powerful I-4 option, people would still buy it... its truly the only SUV left out there that people actually use for what it's intended for...

One of the largest dealers in NorCal, City (aka $#itty) Toyota has this huge lot that's full of Tundras and Tacomas. They easily have over 40 of each. Sucks to be them.

Well I bought my V8 'runner last week. I intend to tow my boat all over the place- need the big power. I also would rather have the full time 4x4 for things like rain, slippery boat ramps, or even when you have wet roads with some ice and snow, but you're not supposed to hit pavement in 4x4 with a standard drive system- tranny case will bind up. If they didn't have the V8, I would have got something else.

BTW, I got 19mpg with 87 octane on my first highway trip and the engine isn't even broken in yet.

I'm not saying the V8 is a bad thing, or the 4x4... I just think that's what they came out with the Sequoia for... the 4Runner was always a compact off roader... same with the hilux/pickup... the Tacoma got too big, so did the 4Runner... they're mid size now... There's nothing between the compact RAV4 and the 4Runner... and there needs to be... RAV4 is basically a unibody car... I want a frame, that makes it a truck...
