T4Rex. Build Thread.

Truck looks great. I like the lift setup you have. Have hard was it to do the steering rack bushings? I heard it can be a PITA so I have been hesitant but I heard that once its done the difference is great. :zoom:

Thanks alot, I read for weeks on here about what suspension setup i was going to go with reading post from Dirt Duster and everyone else on here about their opinions on ride quaility and the flexibility of different lifts. Decided this was the best for my driving style...although i plan on getting the superlexx rear coils from Toytec in the near future. Changing the steering rack wasnt taht bad of a job took about 3-4hrs. The hardest part was breaking the nuts loose, after that nothing too it really. Believe me i am not a mechanic and i did it....lol!! WELL WORTH IT TOO wished i had done this along time ago!! I was scared of it had the parts sitting in the back of my Runner for about a month lol.....

Toyota...enough said...

Wow that is pretty impressive! Is that still your original trans?

yeah...i have had the transmission flushed when i first bought it about 80k ago. Probably need to do it again soon...but yeah still the original trans...i think everything on this 4Runner was ORIGINAL! when i bought it. The ppl that owned it before me abused the hell outta it. Needless to say it was held together buy rustwelds and Toyota LUCK!

Sometimes I think my 4Runner HATES ME!!

well as some of you know i have been putting alot of cash and work into my 4Runner lately. I Have ran into some issues but not too bad, thought i had everything fixed and was good to go! Ya right...so a few days ago i was looking around under my runner after going on a few trails and noticed my steering rack has a leak, not in the steering rack & pinion (idg) but the box on the top that connects to the steering wheel. So i went and picked up some Lucas, hoping it would give me time to buy a rack....

steering rack hates me.jpg

SO the good news is i went today and found a rack from a 99 toyota 4runner at a salvage yard for 100 bucks, the 4runner that the rack was pulled off of only had 80k on it!:naughty: Gonna check on a Elocker when i go to pick up the rack in the morning...hopefully i can get one on the cheap this dude seems to LOVE the fact i have "Veteran" tags! He talked my head off today, and i wasnt thinkin to ask about the locker was to pi$$ed about the rack! LOL..

Think what ticks me off the most is....i just had that dadburn rack off a couple weeks ago changing the bushings...fix one thing 2 others break! :wtf:

OHH and i went to the Stealership locally and all i got to say is WOW...them fers are crazy they want u to just bend over and take it in the :moon:!! wanted 600 for a RE-MANUFACTURED steering rack....needless to say i order my parts for the rear diff breather mod, and walked out of there quick!!

Steering rack installed.

well, this was not all that bad...ended up having to replace the high pressure hose as well, however i was lucky enough to find it for 25 bucks at a junkyard. I replaced the bushing in the new rack with the PolyPerformance ones i bought from Toytec all in all it wasn't that difficult for the first time ever doing this...
whats a build thread with no pics?....:toilet3: thats what!!!

So here is just a few...

Here is the Toyoda OEM rack with Polyperformance bushing kit:

Looks great! I like your mods; keep it up. It never ends!!

thanks! Ya i know it never ends once it becomes an addiction!! I have a few plans for this week hopefully i can find the time to get them finished up...going to move my rear shocks like you and a few other have, think Rip-cord has done this mod as well, then going to break out the claybar and wax. Thinking about changing my plugs again too, its been almost 60k since i have done that. Its easy to do, and NEW is always better lol.
