Tach not working correctly?

I have a new (used) '03 4Runner and I noticed that the tach never revs above 3000. It's around 1000 most of the time but even when I punch it, it never gets to 3K. I'm assuming this is normal? Thanks.

Not normal. Does it feel/sound like it's running properly and just indicating wrong or does it sound like 3k is the max rpm for real?

Yeah, it sounds fine. My uneducated guess would be that it's showing incorrectly.

Here's my main question(s) . . . . Could I ignore this "problem" if it runs fine? Potentially, what's the worse that could happen? Also, what should I look/listen for if there's a problem that should get fixed asap?

It's an electronic tach. If the problem is in the tach display it's fine to 'forget it'. If you don't have a check engine light just drive it... If you get a check engine light then a signal generator would be suspect.

I too been having the same issue. I noticed that the RPM's stay around 1000, even if I press down on the gas, it doesn't usually go any higher than 3000-4000. I didn't really pay attention until I saw this post. I do have a remote starter for my vehicle factory installed. I had to bring it back to the dealership due to the vehicle shutting off after I started the vehicle. I recall the tech stating the rpm's were too high so the vehicle would shut off, so he made some adjustments. Should I be worried?
