Tailgate Emblem Removal TE

I was able to remove the ''T'' symbol easily but how about
the actual 4Runner emblem...is it held in place like the T or
is it glued?

From looking at the repair manual, it appears that there are 4 nuts on the back of the emblem holding it on. I'd assume removing rear door panels would allow access to this. I've attached what I'm seeing...

the 4runner emblem is simply glued in.


i used a heat gun on the low setting and removed them one piece at a time. took all of 5 minutes.


the thing thats actually going to take work is removing the glue residue left after removing the 4runner emblem.

Sorry, upon looking at the parts catalog it appears the emblem is separate from the pull assembly. They list the part as "Nameplate (Adhesive)", so I'm guessing that it's glued or taped down. I've never pulled mine, so these are guesses based on looking at paper.

So the lettering is smooth with no little attachment hooks etc.

"It's not flat under them though as there are 4 indentations in the chrome plastic handle part to help line up the 4-r-u-n-n-e-r badge when it was installed."

Yeah I just read the REMOVAL thread....MMmmmm...the front is super easy...not sure if i want to the rear yet....1000miles on the truck

Every now and again a thread pops up that makes me wonder "why would they do that?" Getting rid of the Toyota emblem and the "4Runner" sign seem to fall in that catagory. Is there an underlying, unstated reason that some folks have for getting rid of the advertising? Just wondering . . . .

You said it..."their advertising". And, it's in oversized, overrated chrome lettering. They do not pay me to run around advertising their product. (Especially using an ugly ad) So why do it?

i removed mine so i could black them out.

Ok so a search led to here and these responses were lacking. I found my answer and came back here to give a better answer. Props to Gene J for his vid.

Park in your garage, leave the tailgate open, then back out with the garage door open. Easy removal. Fortunately I only knocked the 4 loose and didn't anything else.

So yea, it is just glued on. Use a heat gun but be very patient, heat it up slowly and don't get the heat gun too close. You might even be able to do it with a hair drying on high.
