Tailgate window switch not working?

Hey all, I just got a 95' 4runner last week and have been tinkering with things to get it in tip-top shape, but one thing I can not figure out is why the switch inside the truck will not move the tailgate window up or down. It goes up and down perfectly fine when I use the key in the back, but does not respond when using the switch. Thanks for the help in advance!

I'm not sure how to test the switch, how would I go about doing that?

Multi meter and pull the switch find the 2 prongs for up and then push up and see if you get like 0.1-3 ohms and do the same for down and if it's good it could be the window lock switch or the wiring

Mine wasn't working so I just took the switch apart and cleaned it. Worked ever since.

If it helps, another tidbit is; I don't get the "Rear Door" warning when I start the car with the window down... tested the switch, it seems to be in working order.

It worked fine when I got the 4runner, just randomly stopped working 4-5 days ago.

This is on a 1st gen, but my only experience with the rear door light was when the tailgate was unlocked.

The Rear Door warning is only when the lock is unlocked on it.

But if that stopped working too, it could be some wiring from the back to the front....something nicked somewhere that is grounding out. I haven't looked into the wiring on it, but having multiple issues makes it seem more likely.

The block of relays for it is in the back on the drivers side, just in front of the cargo box. But with these symptoms I'd stick with checking and cleaning that front switch first. That's one part of the system I've never had issues with, but we almost never have drinks/soda/food in the truck.

1. Find schematic for your truck.
2. Find relay pins that correspond to down and to up signal from switch. For example, ON FIRST-GEN Up down pins are 5 & 4, respectively).
3. Disconnect connector
4. Ohm-meter probe to ground, the other to the "UP" pin.
5. When switch is pushed to up, you should see continuity to ground on that pin.
6. Repeat with down pin.
7. If no continuity, trace your wires and your window lock switch until you find what interrupts connection to ground.

Example (ON FIRST-GEN), Up down pins are 5 & 4, respectively

Where are you window up-down & lock switches? on Center console? By any chance did anyone in the past 19 years pour soda, coffee or beer on those switches?
