So I am going to my first tailgate with my 4runner this year.

I want to be able to plug some things into the outlet and possibly use the car stereo. Will my battery die if I use it for acouple hours of tailgating?

Depends on what you are using, battery state, everything.

When I am fishing or at the beach..I just start the truck for 5-10min every 45min-1hr. But all depends on what you will have plugged in and for how long.

I would do a "test run" in a controlled environment with jumper cables nearby.

You need dual batteries anyways...good reason to put it in..:roadkill:

Just running the stereo will drain a full battery in a few hours time.

I went camping and found out recently. I had the tailgate open and had music playing from a smartphone through an auxiliary cable, a friend of mine had a sling box plugged in to watch a giants game that he ran for about 90 minutes. I ran that combo for about 3 -5 hours. (Drank a lot of beer, could be mistaken about time) Then later when we went to leave the battery was dead. Luckily we were prepared for that.

i run mine for 10-15min every hour to hour n half.. cpl times i've gone longer.. i have also killed it running it before and just jump-started it no problem.. but ever since my battery has .2-.4 less volts.

I know with the Key Fob you do not get a choice. When the voltage drops to a certain point I have found the radio shuts off. I usually get a few hours of play time. Then I start and run it for a few min and then back to :banana:

If you don't have LED lights, turn off the two in the rear hatch, that may help battery run down times.

Does that little outlet have enough power to use a crock pot? Need to still be cooking my German potato salad on the way to stadium. If so this will be a fun season.

I've attended field events and left my stereo on all day flipping back and forth from FM/SAT, with fans plugged into both adaptors also running. My events are from 8am until 5pm. Never drained a battery. My dogs need music while waiting to trial... makes them run better.

At what volume were you at? Tailgating is very seldom done quietly. Yes, you can run the stereo for hours with the volume low or even normal. Crank it up to about "50" (at least in my TE listening to Alice in Chains) and you will drain it much faster. Again when tailgating, you get maybe two hours at "tailgating" volume. HA HA HA Excellent point! I will say the Party Mode is nice for the tailgate days. Either way I would say your mileage may very. Realistically you should get around an hour.

Depending on how serious you are, it's quite common to use small generators for tailgating.

I'd vote that you just use your cell phone and a Bluetooth speaker. They pack a lot of punch these days and are great for tailgates, the beach, working in the garage, etc.
