When I heard the news this am the story included a statement mentioning that another company was buying the remaining Takata inventory, etc.
That company will likely take on the work Takata cannot do. The story also mentioned that Takata will still be assisting in some way too.

There are no open recalls because there is a schedule to the recalls.
Edit: Apparently 2010 models in Zone A (lower US) should be getting their replacements now (June 2017) and 2011 and 2012 will get it later this year. Still no word on the rest of the country for 2010-2016. Looks like I am out until at least January 2019 since I am in Zone C.

Hopefully everything will continue to go smoothly until we can all get our replacements. I think one of the best things we can do is make sure we are extra cautious when driving on top of not using our front seat whenever we can on the chance that we can have a bad airbag.

For those that posted that have no open recalls does not necessarily mean that your vehicle will be recalled. Check this site at the bottom of the page to see if your vehicle will be recalled in the future.

Is this a reorganization or closing up shop? Two very different scenarios, but neither is particularly good for anyone waiting for airbags.

A Chinese company is buying most of Takata.
" Key Safety will substantially retain all of Takata’s employees worldwide. The air-bag maker had 50,530 people as of March 2016, according to data compiled by Bloomberg."
"Key Safety’s purchase will exclude the assets and operations related to Takata’s manufacturing and sale of ammonium nitrate air-bag inflators, according to the company.
The inflator operations are expected to be run by a reorganized Takata following the transaction closing and eventually will be wound down, the companies said."
Maybe Toyota will wake up and learn to act right.You know, stop lying, stop covering up mistakes, stop dragging their feet, stop paying huge fines. After all, here's a perfectly good example of a company that probably thought they were too big to fail.

If you are wondering if you have a defective airbag or open recall.... it' pretty simple.
If you have 5th gen that is of any year besides 2017 (the current year) You probably have the defective airbag.
If you have a 2016... you may or may not have the defective airbag.
Maybe someone can post the mfg date when 2016s flipped to the new airbag. I'm pretty sure it was late in 2016.
Looking up open recalls is not the way to determine if you have the airbag that becomes unsafe over time.
Any other year 2010-2015, you are guaranteed to have the defective airbag and it will be under safety recall depending on where you live and how much time has passed. The airbag basically has a shelf life that depends on heat and humidity.... Once the shelf life is over it becomes an overcharged pipe bomb if activated in a collision. Metal shrapnel comes out along with the bag.
The 5th gen was the last vehicle made with these airbags.. well after the future danger was well understood. Dealers did not notify most buyers even though they were well aware of the issue. The out was that it was a future issue not a current issue and that it would be fixed... Well. several years later.... still no fixes available and people with older trucks in hot and humid climates....2010,2011,2012 have no solution/remedy even though the shelf life has passed. Toyota is not responding to these customers except to say they are waiting on parts from the supplier. So, expect the same treatment when yours come up as in the red zone....
Some dealers have given rentals, others tell customers to put a sticker on the passenger seat stating nobody can ride here... Some just say get lost. It seems asinine to me.

Car companies make mistakes like this. None of them are perfect.
Yes, many companies had Takata bags... but Toyota has handled it poorly. One thing Toyota does not do.. is move quickly. They are struggling big time right now, but they are all under too much pressure with future regulations... and something will have to give. Right now, customers are paying the price for all the budget going towards very expensive R&D for the future.

Agreed, no auto maker is perfect but there was no cover up. Of course the word "cover up" makes a better story for journalism but there was no cover up. The original complaint was computer related and faulty accelerators. ALso, most auto manufacturers at that time have basically done away with drive-by wire accelerators and had gone with the computer controlled throttles.
Several organizations tried to replicate the scenario of an unintended acceleration but was not successful in doing so.
So people want an answer. As a big company you cant just say "ok, here's nothing wrong and someone is just trying to milk us." Instead they went the floor mats route because people wanted an explanation.
I'd like to source all this info but its too much damn work. You'll just have to take my word for it.
All of these events were taking place during the near collapse of the big 3 american automakers. You think detroit wanted to play nice when they had an opportunity to rip apart Toyota who was one of their biggest competitors? It was Do or Die for the big 3.
My 2002 mr2 spyder with SMT manual transmission had the electronic throttle control and it was damn impressive. The rev matching and throttle response was so smooth and easier than a normal manual transmission. Sure wish they continued using that transmission.
I second this, I would really like to have that information as well as how to tell when your 4Runner was built. I've never had to look for this information before, so I am in the dark there.
