Taking Taillights Apart

Has anyone taken the stock taillights apart on a 4th gen? I have been looking at mine thinking the red bezel would look nice painted.

The tail lights are held together with a different compound, so I wouldn't recommend trying it.

I tried it on my old tail lights (the 03-05 ones) before I got my '06 LEDs. I ended up slightly deforming the lamp and the glue didn't seem to loosen at all.
 
hmmm, I've found a few pictures around of some aftermarket ones. Looks like there is a few alright ones, does anyone have any experience with doing a light tint to the taillights?

why would you want to tint your lights? all that does is make it harder for others to see, thus increasing the risk of an accident

I've always thought the same thing. I don't understand people using vinyl on their tail lights to tint them. I bought the LED tails so people could see me better.

I understand that. that is why I want to paint the bezel. thus you answered my question with a question. thank you.:cowboy:

I gave it a good go at opening the lights with no luck. I found a dot approved set with the bezel black for sale so I bought them. I am still curious about how momo opened his. Maybe Ill shoot him a PM. thanks

Yeah, those are the ones I have. It is like headlights where it is critical that they are built correctly so the beam works well. Since they aren't really projecting the light I just went with the Depo brand. I had thought about going with the newer LED tail lights but really like the older look of these. Same with the headlights
 
Couldn't you do some sort of uni-directional coating? I mean they make one way mirrors and they're like specially tinted glass?
 
If i were going to tint, i would go with Lamin-X film over Nighshade spray.

Lamin-x Protective Films

The film will stay clean and clear looking. From what i have seen on the nightshades, it has a chalky look to it and gets worse over time.

i have an older car i did nightshades on and it is way too dark for my taste.

Its a custom cover I made. The lights are visible to other drivers but at night they do not illuminate much. 4 screws and they come out though.
 
Well these are the ones I bought. Same as Momo.

Not blacked out but they are black and safer than tint. :)
