Talk me off the ledge (HELP)

After owning jeeps for about 6 years I can tell you that the 4Runner is better in every category besides mabye Rock Crawling.
If you wanted to you could do a live axel coversion and make it just as good if not better.
Jeeps are good for one thing and thats Towing behind your car or Rv to go play in the sand.
They SUCK on road. Litterally I would rather ride my bike. They are LOUD as hell. They are cold all the time because they are sealed like **** and there are GAPS everywhere cause everything comes off (doors, Windshield, Top, Etc) Its the Cheapest vehicle made and I will never buy one again. ESPECIALLY the new JK. As soon as they decided to put a minivan v6 in the Wrangler I lost all faith.
If you plan to get this JK as your Daily driver I would think again. But as a trail toy in addition to the 4Runner go for it. But for a Trail toy you should look into a Cj-7 or an early TJ.

I think we as adults all transition in and out of these "phases".
As a kid I first went through the Fox Body Mustang phase and lusted after those just because they were cheap and fast and everyone had them so there was plenty of modding to be had.
Then came my Wrangler phase. It only took one long drive down the interstate to realize that this wasn't something that I wanted. Putting around town and playing off road with the top off was great, but as a practical "big boy" car, this thing was way unrefined.
Then came the street bike, then the quads, then boats, yada, yada, yada...
We're men, we like toys. But the practical side of me has always seemed to prevail. My hard earned dollars have gone to brands like Toyota, Subaru, and Honda. Names with value that I know I can trust. But hey, if you got the cheddar, enjoy!
I was picking up a friend from the Chrysler dealership because his brand new RAM was making squeaking noises from it's dash (imagine that) and I peeked at a Call of Duty Wrangler. I think the sticker said something like $43,000 on it. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?? No thanks. As somebody else said, I'd never own a Chrysler. Not a big 3 guy, but Chrysler is at the bottom of that list for me. Daimler was supposed to bring that company up, but instead it brought Daimler down. Let's see what Fiat can do. I'll admit, I feel like the brand is improving. The interiors of the new Grand Cherokee's are beautiful. But they'd have to do a whole hell of a lot to earn my money and trust. I just know too many people that have gambled on their products and lost big. Not my style.

I left my Jeep behind for my 4runner and will never look back... well I might take a peek on occasion. But the 4runner is a better vehicle all around imho.
I had a 77 CJ-7 up on 35's with a 304 under the hood. It was totaly modded and tricked out. It wasn't pretty to look at but it went places others could only look at from the bottom.
The 4runner is a more comfortable ride, has more storage space, seats more comfortably and gets better gas milage. The 4runner is also more reliable. Did you know that Jeep is actually an acronim:

I loved my Jeep and I will carry some great memories from it forever. But I know that I will have better ones in my 4runner.

death wobble in my experience is usually from people running cheap ass short arm lift kits and running stock pitman arms and shocks. its a short wheels base vehicle with zero ammonites of course it is going to be loud and ride rough. i used to DD a 2002 with a 4" pro comp short arm and properly upgraded steering components and wheel'd it every weekend then drove it to work.
sure it was slow as hell and got bad gas mileage but it never once thought about breaking down. in fact i never did anything but put fuel in it and change the oil. it was boght brand new and now my mom has it and she DD's it still hasnt broken down.
also the matter of consumer reports type sites they are all complete rubbish. i remember looking up my old Chevrolet just for kicks because i was trying to sway a friend that was looking to get a Tundra or Titan to replace his Chevrolet and they said that the drive train was unreliable and gave it black marks on their system. seriously? anybody that knows even the smallest things about 4x4 trucks knows that the GM corporate 14 bolts and 4L80e transmissions are among the toughest of the tough when it comes to light duty axles.
buy a jeep if you want, take the chance. i have always wanted a 4Runner but i hated nearly everything else Toyota, but i was in the market for an SUV and figured what the hey lets give Toyota a shot. so far so good...

an NHTSA recalling Jeep because of faulty wiring catching on fire is completely different than Consumer Reports saying its unreliable.

So what is your point? The fact of the matter is that yes as a whole I'm sure Jeep is road worthy and can hold it's own compared to others. There's a reason the sell in mass quantity and Jeep is still in business. If you put it up against other vehicles say like maybe the FJ or 4runner then the build quality is lacking. Bottom line they have a fire issue that has yet to be recalled and people are pretty much being screwed when buying those vehicles and Chrysler will not cover the vehicles.

This is a weak excuse when you have vehicles fresh of the lot, not even at 5,000 going up in flames when they're completely stock. Poor design and poor quality. Do some research if you have doubts, it's not hard to find. OP wanted to be talked down so I did my part.

Its funny how everyone forgets the stuck accelerator problem Toyota had a few years ago. Ford, Dodge and Chevy dealers slogan was "Toyota, we stop for nothing". No manufacurer is perfect. To those of us with stuck calpers, cracked headers, leaking head gaskets and the $2500 transfer case leak maybe ours will burn to the ground one day and let the insurance company buy us a new one.

I'll easily take any of those over my truck randomly bursting into flames while I'm driving down the interstate. Your not even denying that I'm wrong just saying how Toyota has had their problems. Well at least they get fixed and they own up to them. You take a Jeep from 10 years ago and a Toyota and do a wear comparison and you know which is likely to always be in better shape. 0.02
