Talk to Me About Car Insurance

Ok, so I've got a general car insurance question. How much does the average age population for a particular vehicle affect the car insurance of that vehicle? Here's what I'm getting at: next year Ford SVT is coming out with two hot hatches that both interest me, Ford Focus ST (252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, 6 speed manual) and Ford Fiesta ST (178 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, 6 speed manual).

Do you guys think both cars will have high insurance rates due to the fact that they both will be rather cheap (probably $18,000 to $24,000) and do you see a lot of younger people driving these cars? For cars like SRT-4 neon, SS Cobalt, etc. did those cars have high insurance rates or no? I'm 30 by the way so I think I would be in a lower insurance bracket anyways.

Here are some things that affect car insurance premiums:
Sex
Age
Credit Score
Driving Record
Physical Location
Marital Status
Type of vehicle
Age of vehicle
Options on Vehicle
Milage you Drive
Type of Insurance

Good luck.

It differs from company to company.

Here is an example from my own USAA experience.

Several months ago I switched from a 2001 4CYL automatic Camry ($7000 car) to 2006 265 HP BMW 330i manual w/ sport suspension ($18k car).

My insurance went up only $8 / month . They told me that it didn't matter how many doors the car had or if it was a manual. I am sure they know difference between an M3 and a 330i but USAA didn't care about 325i auto vs 330i manual.

What brian said. I can say it's a lot cheaper to insure a car that does NOT have a lien against it, than it is to insure one that's paid off. (Duh.)

It's always boggled me that trucks seem to be a LOT more expensive to insure, though.
