I was ROTC, Army, Distinguished Military Graduate, '83-86. Got stuck in the great sandbox called White Sands Missile Range, NM. Boy what a schitthole that was. Aside from being a professional toilet----out of 600 military, there were 19 full bird colonels---just about all were passed over, 60 field grades, all passed over, and 60% silly-villains all federal civil service. There is a missile display park right in the front we used to call Civil Service Park--They don't work and you can't fire them. My welcome to the bachelor officer's quarters was meeting a bunch of other lieutenants and young captains with a greeting of "Who did you piss off to get here?"
We were so isolated we had cable radio! Cable just to listen to radio! We had WWF on 24/7, cable TV had WOR, WGN, WTBS. Jesse Ventura was wearing his fur boas and trash talking and Vince McMahon ran around yelling and screaming. Then the new Commadning General took over and his woife was offended that the base cable station had---Oh My Gawd, Playboy Channel! HIde the kids, Louise, they're showing naked wimmin! Oh the humanity. She got that blocked and taken off the cable provider.
Our pasttime as to drive like hell to Alamagordo 45 miles away to eat at McDonald's and walk around the schittiest mall you've ever seen. Then drive like hell back to see who can make it the fastest without a ticket. El Paso was another winner. But that's another rant.
