TBU stock or drilled and slotted rotors

title says most of it.

would there be any real advantage of going drilled and slotted over the stock blanks.

its only a 100 bucks more for drilled and slotted, and they did make an improvement on an old Volvo I had
see lots of people running them

Frankly I think this is something you should Google and has nothing to do with 4Runners specifically. There are posts with countless replies as folks argue plain vs slotted, vs drilled, vs slotted and drilled.

My belief is if you are keeping your factory (not TBU) calipers and just upgrading the rotors and pads then buying Brembo slotted & drilled (both) with performance pads is a great combination which will yield better braking performance and cooling (eg less percieved warp) compared to default 4Runner rotors.

I had this setup for many years. Now I have the full Tundra upgrade kit with normal OEM Tundra rotors, mainly because one of my original calipers finally went out around 220K.

Hah, this topic is hugely debated and will probably still not help you make up your mind. Personally, I'd save the hundred bucks and get the solid blanks. I currently have drilled and slotted rotors because they came with the kit I bought, but they'll be replaced with standard solids when they're due for replacement.

If you're moving up to the larger Tundra components I don't think drilled & slotted is needed if you get a high quality rotor. You cant beat OEM pads though.

For $100 less, go with solid. I went with drilled and slotted because the kit came with those rotors, and the price was right. If I could have saved even $50 for switching to solid I would have.

I got the baddest of the Powerstop kits sold on Rockauto which came with nice pads and drilled/slotted rotors. I didn't really notice a difference from the stock blanks to those. Maybe a little more performance but nothing major. I'd just go with blanks.

the tundra brakes were not hard to install and took a day from start to finish. my stock rotors were warped and one caliper was sticking. so i just replaced everything with the tundra parts and never looked back.

the stock ones are pretty weak from what i hear and are prone to warp and overheat, so i wanted to upgrade and this was the perfect solution.

there are TONS of tutorials on line to guide you through.

I found an amazon warehouse deal for the powerstop drilled / slotted 314MM brake rotors and ceramic pads for $74. I guess i got lucky but I feel it was money well spent. I also changed the rubber brake lines while i was at it.

When I bought my 4 Runner it had a brake shudder and pulled to the right under heavy braking. now it feels great.
