TC Weld-On Cam Tab Gusset - Question....

Total Chaos Cam Tab Gussets.

I pre-assembled mine, however the cam tab won't slide in between the two gussets in the 12 o'clock position (how they were when I pulled them out of the OEM ones). This only applies to the front, inner tab. I can only put it in on an angle. I'm sure I could pound them in with a hammer, but then good luck rotating them.

Should I dremel say, 1/16" off each inner side to make more room?

Did some searching but it seems that I'm the only one having this issue or that I'm overthinking this.

They came out like the last picture and I figure they should go back in like that rather than the first picture.

I would assemble it. Once you are adjusting with a socket and breaker bar, instead of with your fingers, it should work better.

Aren't you supposed to weld the outboard edge? (I did)

The thing is that I can't even get the eccentric washer in. Im sure beating on it with a hammer will work. The outer edges are welded, hard to see in the pic. Thanks for the input.

I've never installed them, but I would assume you want the clearance very tight... Ideally, both sides of the cam would make contact in all positions. But the clamping force also holds them.

Probably would not hurt to file off a tiny bit... or just let them self clearance with leverage.

Your pic says does not fit like this.. but looks like it does. Or at least plenty close enough...

My plan was to just weld a support bead onto the outside of the stock tabs. Putting those on seems like a PITA.

PITA is an understatement. Im welding them on as I type this. The fitment is very tight. Im going to see if I can hammer in the two big washers and see how they rotate after. If its too tight still, Ill sand them down a tad. Its just two out of the eight, as the other washers are smaller. I ordered aftermarket Moog alignment cam bolts anyway, so it wont matter if I end up bending these oem ones.

For those who plan to do this, factor in new cam bolts. I had to cut two out due to them being seized in.

Mine were very similar. It makes for a difficult alignment because you can get them only so close due to the tight tolerance. Actually, I had worked with them on redesigning a couple of the cam gussets because two were not the correct shape for mounting.

A couple taps with the hammer gets them in sitting flat at the 12 o'clock position (the widest). I think everything will be fine without sanding but they should make them a little bit wider. I might install mine at the 10 o'clock position as there would be more wiggle room - just to get me to the alignment shop. Fingers crossed for everything working out! I really don't want to have to sand these down.

The gussets did fit in fine, I have heard of people having to cut the corners out but I must have received the revised versions. Thanks for that (@cbielat) - lol!

Anyways, mine are welded and painted now. Ill post an update if there are any more hassles.

They are different for 2010 + vs older 2009.... Hopefully you got the right ones...
