TCMach's Build Thread

You're right, the rest of us just come here and stare at pretty pictures.
Not true...
Thanks homies.

How are the outboard shocks as far as articulation as apposed to leaving inboard in the factory location?

I have been curious about this as I would love to get more vertical travel for desert and dunes.
Any chance of getting a 12" in there and being able to use all of the travel?

so the travel is quite similar with the setup I have vs factory although I have far more droop (not flex though, ill get to that later). However my lower mounts are a little to high at the moment. In the last picture in that series you can see where my tire is in relation to the body, thats maximum flex at the moment. I like that location for when I go 35s but the issue is a combination of the mounts and mount height.

Here are the issues in detail: the lower mount being to high causes the shock to bottom out at that height instead of hitting the bump and allowing the shock to still adjust. The other issue is that I did very basic mounts with the mounting bolt parallel to the axle. I cant recommend this to anyone else. My lower shock eyelets are getting into the mounts when I flex. The combination of these two issues results in the shocks never fully drooping out. I probably have an inch of unused down travel. I will soon be re-doing the lower mounts with something similar to what 4x4underground has for their rear coilover mounts (bolt perpendicular to rear axle) and also lowering them by about an inch. Hopefully this fixes all the issues.

As far as a 12" shock goes, yes you could get one in. The two goals I had for these mounts were no getting into the fender well, and not hanging below the axle. With a 12" shock you would be right at the extremes of either one of those parameters if not beyond them. I think you could do it with some massaging of the fender well and pushing the lower mounts as low as they can go on the axle but you may give up some uptravel.

Hey TC, didn't you just graduate with a construction management degree? Or did you ever see a picture from the HHS graduation of a kid on the floor?

So I actually graduate in December. I was offered an internship for this whole semester so I took it. Nobody I know that graduated said anything about somebody falling down so I cant said I heard about it haha

Haha damn itttt. Talk to Brady,( I'm his roommate btw! Small world haha) but it was a trip! Congrats on being so close I'm right there with you.

Those look great! I'm finally working to get my uppers replaced. What was your reason going heims and ballistic joints over no poly? Others have said that with full solid they noticed the mount holes start to wallow out over time. Just curious as I know my lower poly frame side bushings have gotten chewed up because of the sideways movement of the axle and they will need to get changed out at some point.

Haha I'll have to ask him. Are you CM too then? I don't remember if he told me his roommates were CM or not.

Those things are sweeeeeeeeeeet! Pure beef..

Not as sweet as your 35s. But that's coming haha. I have 4 more ballistic joints I won't be using if you want to build a set.

Awesome truck. Bad ass on shocks and rear UCA and LCA.

Do the rear shocks mount in the same location on the axle. Just that they are welded in different location for top mount

Mostly because I waited around long enough I got all of it on really good sales. I got the Heims for dirt cheap and they're uppers so I don't really worry about them wallowing out. I could be wrong but with all the misalignment you get from having them on both sides I don't see it every getting bound up. The ballistic joints have poly races and I've only heard good things about them and all the other joints that look the same. I assume a lot of the wallowing out is from smacking them against rocks with heim joints. There's nothing to absorb the impact so it's transferred to the bolt and then the mount. The poly race should help with that.

Either way it's not long before I swap housings (mine is a rusty pos) so wallowed out mounts isn't a huge deal.

Thanks man. The rear shocks mount behind the axle so they have custom mounts on the backside as well. This is what they look like for now. I'll be changing them up a little soonish

Super tempting, lemme think about it. I'll text you about them soon!

Installed! My stock bushings were totally shot so the ride quality and noise level has drastically improved. However the one unintended benefit was that with my corrected pinion angle the lockrite is even better behaved. Its never bothered me but I can always feel it getting on and off the gas in turns and such. With the corrected pinion angle I can still feel it but it feels smoother engaging. More of a lock up rather than an explosion and then a lock up

I just read through this whole thread. This thing is dooooooopppppeeeeee :hunter:

That rear bumper is sweet. Love the fix! That should go into production...:hungry:

TCMach , how about an update on those rear shocks? Change up the lower mounts yet?

So at the moment nothing has changed. I graduated from CSU in december and have started my new job so the runner has been on the back burner. But i'm actively in the market for a commuter and once that happens the shocks are first on the list of things to do. Current plan is to totally ditch the 10" and go for a 12" stroke shock. Possibly 14" if i feel ballsy. the lower mount will probably end up being on the same level as the link mount. No solid plan at the moment since i haven't stuck it on a lift and cycled it.

Your runner looks amazing man!!! Love the wheel choice. Something simple that doesn't suggest that you got mall crawling!
