TE will be great in the winter. Get some good snow/ice tires and you will find you very rarely need to thow it in 4Hi.

When I was buying my TE I mentioned to the kid who was "selling" it to me that the hood scoop was fake. He didn't believe me so he popped the hood to prove me wrong.

The hood scoop serves one, and only one purpose: to reflect sunlight directly into my eyes on sunny days. It's annoying as hell and I'm still trying to settle on a blackout method that I can live with.

But, it does look *awesome*!

Well, that may be what you use it for, but when I pat it or rub it, it's very "real" to me, even if it doesn't scoop anything. There are many things in this world that can be called "fake" but they sure do look good. And maybe even feel good!

I'm only an inch taller but seriously I have never had an issue with the reflection. As I said above if it were an issue I would have it wrapped with a flat, non reflecting color. I think you can get a matte clear wrap.

Torso to leg ratio...we've all got different proportions G. I have a friend that is the same height as me (~6'-6'1"), and when he sits in the passenger seat of my old sedan, his knees are practically hitting his chest. Meanwhile I can hop into the same exact seat in the same exact position and sit kind of comfortably. Obviously he has way longer legs then me, lol.

Now factoring in all the differences in torso height and leg length (which would inherently change your front to back seat position), you can probably see why even two people at similar height can very likely be staring into the reflection of that awesome hood scoop at different angles.

Fortunately for me, I don't get blinded by that scoop reflection much at all, but maybe it's partially because I like to keep the seat back kind of tilted a little instead of straight up.

Why are you guys even concerned with reflection from direct sunlight, don't most malls have covered parking anyways? :shrug:

Am I crazy??? Looking at the TE gen 5. I really don't do any hard core off-roading other than some camping and trips to Vermont in the winter for skiing.
Yes I get caught in blizzards.


I drove the TE and liked the ride more than the limited but from the 20 or so threads I read here the Limited is better suited for snow.

Anyone here use the TE with Stock tires on long highway trips to ski mountains in the winter.

Would you view it as easier to "just" get the limited with the full time 4wd. Price works out pretty close [nav/entune trail vs base limited"]


I know this has been discussed at length but I am just trying to see if there are any road drivers running the TE in snow and happy with it.

Even when my SR5 was stock it killed it in the winter time. I ride almost every weekend all over New England so I know where you're coming from. I've been caught in a lot of storms with my truck and always have felt comfortable. Just don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine in any of them. The Limited would do well as it's full time all wheel drive.

I got my TE in CA at the end of December last year. Promptly drove it with stock tires to Durango and suffered through a couple of snow storms. (my daily drive is about 15 miles into town from the north). Scared the cr@p out of me - maybe was just me, but I felt like I had no traction at all. Went to Goodyear and got Wrangler Silent Armor shoes. And I love them. They are great on snow and rain, and they're pretty good on the trails also. Not as good as Duratrac, but close.

My hood scoop blinds me all the time, it's very annoying. On the other had there is noooo way I would trade for a hood without one...How would I make up the 25hp+ that the scoop provides?

Clearly, sir, you have never been to the top parking deck of the Mall of America! I always top off my tank before I start my overland adventure there in 4Lo....

Hey ladies... I say get some sunglasses! You'll find them right next to your testicles in your wife's purse. Last time I checked this thread was about hard core off-roading in mall parking lots. I bought my TE cause my wife liked the color and it was the only one on the lot..... And it wasn't a minivan. Simply put,... Hood scoops put hair on your nuggets!
