Techstream Cable and Software Recommendations

I'm looking to get Toyota Techstream cable and software soon to program more keys and see additional engine data when necessary. I've read a few rumors about the included software cd's containing malware, but I'll be using an old Windows 7 laptop that only works as a desktop due to dead and discontinued battery so I'm not concerned with that. Does anyone have any recommendations for either? Is there a specific software version I should be looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I set up Techstream years ago (2014). There may be better methods now, but I know mine works. I used this cable, which is still available:

Yes, I use a dedicated XP laptop. It seems happy with this retirement arrangement.

For anyone following along that's interested, I ended up ordering this cable and driver from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Yueku-J2534-...teway&sprefix=YUEK,aps,183&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

It's from a chinese company/seller I believe. The directions are in kinda poorly worded english, but if you follow the directions to the "T" it will work great. Keep in mind that there is a separate driver that must be installed for 64 bit (it's included with the software). There's also an install video to follow along with (doesn't show 64 bit driver installation) that I found to be helpful in filling in the written instruction's wording gaps. The computer I used was a Windows 7 64 bit laptop from around 2012.

NOTE If you do not have a cd drive for the included software (or already have the cable) there is a link to download the software. The seller also provides a remote access program you can setup on your computer and then email them the user id and password for them to remote access your computer to either install or fix whatever issue you are having.
 
On a side note, there really isn't as much extra data or functions as I was hoping for. GM's Tech2 has a lot more access and control over module functions for additional testing and preferences. However, I bought this to program new keys and read more data when diagnosing so it works well for that. It's worth noting that I have not found a way to program key fobs or access any personal preference settings.

Edit: Not sure how relevant but I have a 2000 Limited

Ah, that's bad news as I have failing actuators and was hoping to program fobs without replacing/rebuilding those things. They work well enough when you're not trying open/close them 20 times inside of a minute.

Oh-well, my cable is enroute now and I'll be glad to not pay the dealer $109/each to program keys (apparently the one I got was a valet, can't program with the throttle/brake dance).

One of the reasons I wanted this was to program fobs. My lock actuators are pretty tired. I read somewhere that if you hookup a battery charger and roll down the window to manually help the actuator with your key in the door lock that it helps. I haven't tried it, but will be when the time comes.
 
I cannot remember which one I bought but I got it on Ebay. I have it installed on my old laptop that runs 64bit Vista. It was a little hard to find a version that works with 64bit vista but they are out there.

Techstream is a great tool to have IMHO.
