Tell me about the 2013 4runner LTD 4WD

Shooting a lot of blanks here. Is this how 4runners run too?
Hey guys. Do to the tax benefits of being over 6000lbs. and lower price, I will likely be purchasing a 4runner LTD over the Acura mdx. I have driven only Honda's and Acura's all my life so this is a bit of a shock even thinking about it. My current daily driver is 06 MDX.
What will I miss? What do I have to look forward to?

Depends. Have you been happy with the MDX? If yes, [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] 's advice is spot on. Spend plenty of time testing. You are changing from a car-based CUV to a truck-based SUV. You just may not like it.
I'd sure like to hear an explanation of this: "...... the tax benefits of being over 6000lbs."

That's the obvious short list, but as mentioned; go test drive and make your comparison and how it will suit your needs. the TE, SR5 and LTD are fairly different beasts, so if you are not sure what model you want, test drive them all.
While there is a ton of information here, your current question is really to basic. You may want to start out with putting the feature and spec lists side-by-side (the Toyota site offers a comparison function) as that will answer the "what am I losing vs gaining" question.

PS: If you like 1Engineer's bike over his "junk" 4Runner, then I think you may already have answered your own question in that the 4runner is not the vehicle for you... Just sayin...

Essentially you get a bonus $25,000 deduction for >6000lb vehicles in the purchase year. This is in addition to the standard $25,000 business vehicle deduction.

You need to drive both a lot. The '13 MDX is nothing like the '06. I just drove one (2013) and the handling with the SH-AWD is nothing short of amazing. But, I drive a '12 T4R and really like it. It feels more solid to me.
I think the newer Acura's are much more trouble prone than in the past too. Just go to Edmunds and read all the complaints, from transmission shudder to electrical issues. Toyota's are still pretty bullet proof.

Owned a paid for 4th Gen 4Runner with only 50K miles - I'm in a 5th Gen now only because it was mandated by my accountant as a no brainer. My 2011 Limited was on the IRS list back then. How tax law changed since 2011 I do not know.
A smarter person than me will need to explain the in and outs because all this stuff is now beyond me. My taxes this year are 58 pages long and at this point I just sign where they say and write the checks indicated. However the accountant knows his stuff because we just finished at full IRS audit and I'm not in jail.

The section 179 depreciation was actually more recently changed at the end of 2012. This is honestly one big reason I originally went to the 4runner myself. It allowed a purchaser to take a very large tax deduction for a purchased and placed in service vehicle over 6000 lbs as long as it met certain criteria. Here is a link that can explain it Business Vehicles - Section 179 Deductions | Section179.Org. However, it is only really for people who can itemize deductions for work (self-employed). The vehicle list is mush smaller after 2011 so that may be what the other posts have been referring to changes for 2011. For 2013 the extra deduction of 50% of the value associated with business use over the $25k is no longer and only a 20% can be taken. Still better than the $11,xxx for other vehicles. Assuming 100% business use a $40k purchase could have a business deduction of $25k+(50% of $15k=$7.5)+(20% of $7.5k)=$34k business deduction for 2012. Too late now though as purchase would have to have been by 12/31/12 for 2012. 2013 would be reduced by 6k of deduction. Still qualifies for $25k+(20% of the difference between balance and purchase). Tax, title and tax can also increase the deduction as well as parts/maint.
Yes generally I have been happy overall other than the torque converter transmission issue. I'm not sure how long tranny will last.

Ok thanks. I like mdx overall but had tranny issue which made me look elsewhere. I realize I am going to lose out some but the IRS pretty much says to get the ltd over the x. This is company vehicle so I plan to take the food stamps they are offering. God knows how much taxes my business is paying every month and I can assure you it's a lot.
