I need to try to read the manual AGAIN but anyone got a quick explanation. Why when I push "AUTO" does the AC light come on? Why do the dash vent blow cool air even with temp set at 79-80 degrees. Why even in manual mode does it decide on it's own to change from dash vents to floor vents. My brother says every Japanese vehicle he has had, has non-intuitive heater/AC conrols. I just like to have a choice of heat or AC and then a temp dial and a blower switch. So Simple.

Thank you very much, Koz. That was very informative. I will download it and re-read my manual. Sounds like a lot of people are as frustrated as I am. I hadn't paid much attention to what the recirculation button was doing while all this other was going on. Should I ignore A/C light coming on when I push AUTO in the wintertime?

If you don't want the A/C on when you hit the Auto button, you can just press the A/C button after you hit the Auto button, and it will turn the A/C off.

Be sure to use the A/C or defrost (uses A/C) at least once in a while to keep the A/C system lubed and working properly.

Even during winter with the heat on, the A/C will work to keep the cabin dehumidified and much less likely to fog up. However, I often turn the A/C button off just because of old habits. I sometimes think that running the A/C when it isn't really needed puts an additional load on the engine and uses more gas.
