Temperature Display problem

IIRC, no one has figured this out, not even the dealers. Some members (I believe they're in Canada) want the Metric units, but can't switch from English over to Metric. And then we have a couple US members who somehow miraculously have Metric units on theirs. Perhaps a swap with a Canadian member?
I am totally open to replacing anything in the car with a Canadian friend. I noticed this morning on the screen I had "E01" rather than the usual range. Time was correct, temperature was correct in Celsius, but range was missing and all buttons were un-responsive. After a quick stop at the gas station, I got the usual range but still in kilometers! There has to be loose connection, or failure in someplace. Anybody knows there the display gets its data from?
Problem solved
Almost after a year of hunting for a solution, finally I figured it out! The problem is the “Air temp sensor”. I realized that after resetting the temp display by disconnecting the battery, it went back to Celsius when there was a major temperature swing. (eg leaving a heated garage on a rainy day) I just swapped the sensors between my Lexus ES300 and 4Runner and halleluiah! It has been a couple weeks without any problems! I am back to Fahrenheit again! It looks a new sensor is less than $15 from Toyota. The faulty sensor is located in front of the radiator on the center brace; P/N 077500-5191 . :reddance:

It's obviously been a while so thanks for getting back to the forum with the answer.
This is one of those gems of info to help with tackling the gremlins that can't be found in a repair manual. Congrats for figuring this out.

Hey man, sorry I know this is an old thread, but did this fix the e01 problem as well? I'm running into your exact same issue. It started after I swapped all my orange lights for white leds but I didn't screw anything up so I thought maybe something was loose. Just wanted to see if this solved all the problems though?
