Tensioner bearings, or whole assembly? replace

my 07 with 165K has a squalling tensioner. I read an older thread here about a member who knocked out the bearing and replaced it. Whether by that method or the more aggressive approach of replacing the whole assembly, I need to do something pretty soon lest I have an unplanned stop.

Somebody tell me what the right thing to do is, and the BEST parts to use. I don't want to shave a few dollars only to have to do this again in 30k miles.

I also plan to replace the belt

Replace the whole assembly and use Toyota parts. That is the best way to go.

Toyota does not mftr those parts. But if you feel good about buying their logo, then it's cool.
I would bet they Might contract a better bearing for pulley on a Lexus LS vs a 4runner. Ya think?

The tensioner and pulley itself are made out of solid metal and will last forever. Put in a new Koyo or Nachi Quest bearing on your existing pulley and call it a day. Knocking out the old bearing is easy. When installing, stack the old bearing on top of the new to help seat it initially, remove the old bearing, then lightly tap the new one in.

kinda wish I had done that way. got in a hurry. did the job, then ugly realization that we misdiagnosed, which is why I just posted a diff thread on ALTERNATORS! aarrrrggghhhhhhh:sad:
at least I have new pulleys and belt done.
