Terrible Noise From Transmission? Need Advice

This interests me. I like the idea of a bulletproof transmission but I think my ceiling for one, with extra parts, is $1500. Any chance that would fit the budget? I'm not afraid to tear things apart as long as it's not too detailed. I've already done a valve body shift kit in my now destroyed transmission but that was at the limit of what I'm able to do as I almost messed it up beyond repair

The 1st part would be picking up a 3f310, which I've used craigslist and FBMP, most of the people picking up the 2jzgte vvti have goals of well over 450hp, which I've read is about the limits of this auto trans, and they sell off the auto that came with said, most people have very little understanding of how well built these came from the factory, I have side by side pics ill dig up that will show u what Im talking about. 1500 is more then doable but if u had issues messing with the VB what Im speaking of will probably to much....??? I'd help u if I lived closer then a few states over, ur build info with the supercharge is what made me replace the 5vz. with that said if u have anyone that closer to u that can help I have no issue "trying" to explain what all u'd need to do... I posted put a few of the pics on ifs a while back

I would keep looking for the used tranny. Rebuilds are northward of $3000 and more. I think 99s still have transmissions available to them but of course are on back order.

To be clear a pic of what aspect specifically? i've posted a # of pics of said from time to time as the build has progressed

I’d like to see how well that 2jz fits in the engine bay, I’d even consider swapping in a 2jzge depending on how hard it is to fit in there

left what in the 3rd gen 4runner trans VS right 3f310

Can't help u there as to get the SAS, 2jz, increased space for coolers/rad, winch, larger tires etc. lengthened the engine bay and overall length of the 4runner

Yup - mine went out (marbles sounds = tc coming apart), 01 on backorder (toyota reman), $2900, hopefully I'll get it back on the off road by hunting season in a couple months...

I see some on Ebay and other places for sale and you are right, they are very low mileage compared. Can I ask what makes them stronger than our A340Fs? It does look like it would work but a fair amount of work to swap them over as the output shaft and flange don't look like they will work at all. But if it's much stronger than ours I'd be willing to at least give it a serious look and price it all out. I don't think I can use anything from my current transmission though.

Glad my thread could help you on your journey. I'm sitting at roughly 350ish crank HP but desperately need to regear this thing, it feels more like 250. My other car is a 200 HP hybrid and it's quicker off the line due to the electric engine.

Any ideas to beef up a A340F if the A340E 3F310 doesn't work out before putting it in, other than the TransGo HD kit I already have installed?

There r # of parts that have to be swapped over from ur old trans or a doner, the 3f310 sifting level is on the wrg side of the trans so u have to swap urs over, along with the shift indicator box/plug, ur VB will have to be cleaned and moved over (assuming this is the route u'd b taking and not running the 3f310 (i'd still need to look into things before I can say one can or can't run said with 100% confidence). The rear 4x4 housing on the 3rd gen A340 has to be moved over to the 3f310, The 3f310 output shaft is not interchangeable with the 4runner A340 but u can just cut the 3f310 shaft down to the needed length.

on a side note people running dual Tcases can use 2wd transmission, by the same way as noted above, u can cut the length so u get more spline to spline enter face with the dual case coupler.

the 3f310 bell-housing doesn't work on the 5vz as the starter is on the wrg side to start

as far as what makes the trans better, if u look at the pics i posted earlier u can c that the parts aren't made from stamped metal parts, the center support has 5 gears vs 4 gear, have other pics that show there is more meat left of the main case, more and better friction discs, taller front pump 22ish% more flow.

there are a # of upgrades one can do to the 3rd gen A340 and astrio A340 3f310 like those listed on ATFspeed.com sprags, discs, TC's, Billet Forward Piston, list goes on, just depends on what u want to spend

theres a ton more info I'd have to go over but if the 3f310 isn't something are planning to run (which from what u said about needing to get ur runner back up quickly I personal don't recommend if dismantlement and reassembly aren't something ur confident about), A junk yard trans for a couple hundred sounds best and then u could play around with the idea of the 3f310

Yeah they more you explain it the less I think it will work for what I'm needing. I'm giving this whole process a month so I'm not in a desperate hurry but I don't really have the time or money to experiment with the valve body or having to modify existing parts out of my A340F into an A340E 3F310. If it doesn't work 100% the first time I think I would be in a tight spot and regret trying. Normally I'm the guy to try things but after blowing my engine due to 'trying something new no one else has done' I've fulfilled my risk-taking needs for the time being.

I really really like the idea of it and glad that it's been working well for your build. The power output of your engine plus having a very stout transmission should be a blast to drive! Thank you for taking the time to explain it and share your research, I think innovators like yourself help us find new ways of improving our vehicles!

Careful now, I made one very light joke at Biden's expense and my post was almost immediately removed and i was issued an infraction by the mods :pound:
That's the most mod action I've seen in years here. Kudos
