Test Drove a TRD Pro and a Trail

Newbie

Hey guys I just got my Pro I love everything about it. Its my first 4runner I got the black with the black interior. I paid 44,500 out the door with gap and extended warranty. I think I got a fair deal but after I took it out today in the muddy trails I really didn't care how much it was!!
 
Just to clarify my posts I'm not trying to knock the trd pro models as I think they look cool and offer an off the shelf option. I'm just trying to point out that I think for the same money you can build a better equipped runner by starting with a trail if you can get it for $8k to $10k less.
 
Update... White Trail Premium is on the way! Hopefully by the end of the week. Made a trade with my 07 GMC Sierra Crewcab with my local dealer 2 miles away. Negotiated the price below invoice without the trade and got nearly what I wanted for my truck plus negotiated a hell of a deal on the TRD pro wheels. I'm doing a new tire changeover for either 265/70R17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T RHS or Firestone Destination A/T. I've had both and liked them both very much.

I know it's not original to build a sort of TRD Pro clone, but hey, I like the look! Here in small town Iowa, I probably won't run across another.
 
What did you negotiate the Trail Premium price to? Did you get KDSS? Any other options?

Congrats on the purchase. I just picked up a 2015 TEP in white as well.
 
Curious to know what the price was too....I paid 38k before tax for my trail premium with KDSS, paint film, and exhaust tip. I'm in maine.
 
36884 no KDSS. Only option is carpet floor mats because it's coming from another dealer and that is what it already had on it.

I've got my set of 4Runner all weathers that came out of mine if you want a set. I took them out after about a week. I would just need to give them a quick wash and they would be good to go. Drop me a PM if I terested. Would make a good deal on them. :)

Thanks, I appreciate the offer. I'll wait and see what the stock ones look like. I doubt I can get the $225 out of them that they are costing me! I was going to get Weathertechs for my current truck when I bought it... 8 years and 110,000 miles later I still have the factory mats. lol

I find it quite stupid regarding some of the pointed-out features they still list on the window sticker.... When's the last time you saw a vehicle with only ONE sun visor? Who drives away in a new vehicle with an EMPTY fuel tank? And who doesn't get some sort of floor mat set thrown in if it isn't listed? Hahaha!

Anyway, this is what a regular Trail Edition comes with in New England. If someone with a Pro could post the same info, we can create the actual list of differences. :D

Interestingly, I just learned KDSS is not available in the New York or New England markets. Was this a feature you did not care to have? I am debating whether I want it, since I'm lifting anyways with much better shocks (and possibly coils - OME).

BTW, I am looking at the same exact truck as yours...Trail non premium with upgraded audio/nav. Thanks for posting your purchase price. My dealer quoted $35,700 for a similarly equipped trail as a "sample" price. They took $1600 off MSRP.

Yeah in your region they are available, but I have a trade though. So I may need to stay local. Someone suggested using a broker to handle everything, I need to look into that.

My trade needs to go in order to procure a '15 runner!!

Out the door (before tax and title), I signed for my new 2014 TE Premium w/ KDSS for $37,155 around first of September 2014. That included KDSS, Entune/NAV, Moonroof, Cross Bars, All weather Mats, Heated Mirrors, Chrome Tip, Block Heater, and an Aftermarket remote start.

Will have my Toytec BOSS suspension, 255/80/17's, teflon wheels, UCA's all installed tomorrow afternoon, and so far I am less than 3k into upgrades post-sale (see my build thread).

I am glad I didn't wait for the 2015's or the TRDPro.

I think you will be happy with your choice.

Paying 8k for a custom bumper and an $800 suspension just didn't seem like a value or like something worth the wait.
 
Looks like a lot of guys have beat my deal, but it was best I could do.. Supply and demand here I guess. I could not even find a trail with KDSS to test drive and I still have not even seen a Trail Premium in person. My dealer told me today 2 of the 3 Premiums he had found sold this week and he is waiting to hear back on the 3rd tomorrow. My guess is the other dealer is not going to want to release it.. I don't really want to wait to order one, but I suppose that is an option..probably have it 10 yrs, so I'll wait for the one I want.

The dealership I use, which I really like, is Prestige Toyota in NY. They have 2 TEPs right now, both silver.

You could negotiate the trade over the phone. I've done that for the last 3 purchases I've made and done really well. They will tell you they can't do it over the phone, and I say, yeah, the last salesmen told me the same thing and ended up doing it. And they eventually come around.
 
which is why i decided to go with a slightly used older trail with low milage Vs a new one. 1. so hard to find specifically what youre looking for. 2. Brand new out the lot loses value already. Good luck finding what you want. Hopefully you can find one you like soon.
 
I also made the decision to go with a TEP over the Pro. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted the Pro but back when I was working with the dealer, they had very little Pro info and wouldn't even let me put a deposit on one. So it was wait for the Pro or go with the TEP that I ordered (and locked in a solid deal on it) through them. Half a year later (and a few mods), I'm still happy with my decision. I still like the Pro grill a little better but the height of the Pro suspension is a let down for me. If I would've held out for the Pro, I would probably want to lift it a little to get it close to the pre-production height (which may defeat the purpose of waiting for the "lifted" TRD suspension) so the only real thing I would be getting out of it would be the grill anyway.

where did this "$800 suspension" myth originate, exactly? :confused: the parts alone retail for $1700 MSRP.

congrats on your purchase. sounds like you got a great deal to me.
