So in order to take the scout camping in the Runner, I had to get it registered. *I also realized that since I removed the front bumper that I had no front blinkers*:no:* So I improvised! * I temporally mounted a couple LED strips that I picked up from Williams Offroad Lighting.
They work great during the day, but they are way to bright at night*:lol: *I talked to Brandon and he is going to get some amber ones on their way for me!!
I also had my first oil change since the pan swap and seafoam treatment. *After 50ish miles I couldn't believe how black the oil was. *
I did think of a couple other things that I need to address.
1. no speedometer. *I need to find a speedo sensor from a Tacoma. *The 3rd gen uses the ABS sensors and the Tacomas did not *:?:*:?:*
2. Brakes worked much better, but I still want to have them power bled and see if I can get them back to where they were before.
3. Need to finish painting the frame and rear bumper. *It is driving me nuts.
4. Steering is a little stiffer than I like. *I am thinking next winter adding hydro assist. *My dad can get a kit from the tractor shop for about 1/2 the price of the name brands and they work just as well.
5. I am getting a little noise from the 3/4 elliptical slapping the frame. *I either need to put some rubber between them or fab a mount where I can lock it down while driving on the road.
6. Getting a little more sway than I like. *I think locking down the elliptical and adding Hydro assist will help that but we shall see!!!
7. Need a full sized spare
8. Decide whether or not to pull out the spare mount in the cargo bay. *It was actually pretty nice to be able to double layer the gear without having to pile it. *I might try to find a way to put it in and out easily.

2. After continuous driving the brakes have worked themselves out. I think it was a combination of needing the air bubbles worked out and rusty/oily rotors.
6. I think I have found a better root cause for my sway. No its not the height! I think its the rear suspension set-up. I love the set up, but we knew there would be some bugs to work out and I think this is one of them. I need to design and fab a way to lock down the elliptical and have a quick release to unlock it when wheeling.
Now that I don't have a tow rig these are things that are going to be a priority.

Had a little time to work on the Runner today! Got a couple odds and ends buttoned up.
One issue we had with the SAS was the E-brake cable. We had to tie it up with a bungie cord to give it room to move yet not rub on the drive line. I got an extension spring to use more permanent
Then I clamped down my rear springs. It will be interesting to see if that helps with the sway. I just used a cheap u-bolt for now. If it does what I want it to then I will spend a little more and get something a little more HD.
Last but not least I finished my tire carrier!!!! I guess all but the paint on the bumper!

Nice looking bumper! How difficult (heavy) is it to raise the tire carrier? Do you plan on putting gas struts on it?

No plans for gas struts at this point. I am pretty BAD A$$ so!!:jk: Really it is not as heavy as I thought it would be. Its actually harder to put it down than lift it up!:suspicious:

KidV and I made it out to Rattlesnake yesterday. *I forgot how much of a workout it is. My body decided that if I was going to screw with it it is going to screw with me!! *Didn't really get any action shot just some posers. *We needed some more people with cameras to capture some footage!
I totally kicked that rock that got my doors ass this time!!!!
Then I bout fell in this big ass hole!! *It doesn't look so big until you look inside.

We really had a great time and the weather was freaking beautiful. *The trail was even dry. *Really the only thing that could have made the day better, besides a little sleep, was a few more rigs!!

THardy is just jealous because the Wifemobile can do 60 on the freeway without the ass end falling off. :moon:

My rear end never fell off!! 75 down the freeway and all I got was a little/lot of shake. Just a matter of tires out of balance. I don't know what was different but it was much smoother on the way home. Maybe the shake was coming from I-15. I had no problem going west of Utah lake!!

Maybe you should trade your baby on the black market so you can get some decent tires then. I'm sure your wife will understand.

So guess what guys!! For those of you who thought that my Runner was good to go, guess again!! She went back on jack stands last night *

After Kevin and I went wheelin Friday we notice some oil on the inside of my passenger front tire. No big deal probably just an outer axle seal. Got home drove it around the back side of the hill to ditch a couple straw bails, on the way home I put it in 4 low and climbed the hill in my back yard. Now something is binding. *:x*
Got the front end on jack stands and everything seems to be turning fine. I'm going to put the rear end on stands tomorrow, to see if its in my t-case.
It only does it in 4 wheel drive with the hubs locked which makes me think its in the front end. I do get a little vibration when the hubs are un locked but I don't get the drag i get when they are locked.
I sure hope I get this figured out quick. once this baby come I'm not going to have much time to work on it.

I picked this ugly ass trailer from my boss for the right price ($0.00) with the intentions of building a trailer I can put my camp/offroad gear in and leave it!! *It will also be used to accommodate scouting activities.
LIKE I SAID IT IS UGLY but that is about to change.
I started tearing it down yesterday afternoon
Plan for now is to cut the parts that he added off, reinforce the tongue, sand it down and paint it. *My dad has a set of wheels with 33's on them that he is going to give me. *Once I get that done I will attack the box. *I will probably leave the shape and size. *After I clean the old paint off I will see it the wood is salvageable. *If not I will step across the street and grab some scrap wood from a new home that my buddy is building. *Then paint it and mount it to the frame!!
Let the tear down begin!!
Then I had to go to work *:x

While I was waiting for the scouts to show up last night I started taking my dash apart to install my CB. *I looked at a couple threads and decided I was going to mount it in place of the ashtray. *I figure thats a great place for it seems I don't use it and it keeps falling open! *Took it to work and cut the back out and mounted it in. *Most of the threads I looked at did it a little differant. *I didn't have a mounting bracket so I took the cover off the radio and drilled a couple holes and mounted it straight in.
Now I get to find time to wire it and run my antenna cable!!
