The 2016 ROAM 4Runner Build

Roof rack is pretty much figured out...all aluminum with a removable 100 watt solar panel over the sun roof area, a 42" curved LED bar...maybe a single row. The feet will be bent 1/4" plate steel mechanically attached to the aluminum siderails.

At some point the ARB awning will get installed, and then figure out a mount for the hilift. I'm also incorporating E-rail down each side...hidden.

Weight comes in about 55-60 before solar panel lbs...panel ads an additional 20 lbs

Then there's an option of no solar, use a foldable 80 watt panel when I need it, and make the whole rack solid ( or possibly an insert for the moonroof)

I'm figuring a 42 " single row LED bar for an application like that.

Looking good man, the panel looks movable, is that part of the design? Also, are you gonna leave it silver? Black? Super White? :reddance:

I drive at least 90 miles round trip to work everyday, and so I have a great reason to have it. I get that it helps the ride, especially when I'm doing 99% on road driving, and 1% off road. It seems there are minor issues with fit on sliders and skids, but nothing insurmountable.

I would classify my style of off road driving as calculated....I'm perfectly happy with the truck as is, and would rather pump the extra grand into a serious suspension upgrade.

While it's not awful, I have actually hit the rear sway bar and drug it across rocks a few times.

I've met you a few years ago at the fall gathering and loved your previous truck, now I own one. Maybe now I will need a 2016 too...

Going to shoot for the silver look. I really like the the TEP wheels.

As far as the panel...as long as I can figure a way to hinge it and ultimately keep the top surface free of any hinges sticking up, I'll probably make it lift on the rear to take advantage of the sun.

Honestly...If I just carry a small jump pack, I could probably just pass on the solar. If I added correctly, I should only be in the hole for about $180 fit all the solar parts.
 
I am looking at putting in a second Blue Sea and really like the location you came up with rather than my plan to go under the front seat. Is yours always hot or ignition switched? What size of circuit breaker did you end up using?

lol...hey Gabe!!..remember that frigging muck hole we through that was up over the hood...that was crazy...hope to see you again down this way...maybe Vermont Overland rally this fall?

Yep, that was crazy and this what probably killed my alternator a few weeks later. I had a friend that when last year to Vermont Overland rally and liked a lot, I may go this year.

I used the 100 amp Bussman breaker (that's what the box is rated for), directly from the battery, always hot.
