The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

I am also running one. Are you running water/meth injection?

Nope, just the 7th and dont see any need to run a water/meth injection.
One thing that turns me off about a water/meth inj kit is that you need to always have water/meth available. You dont want to run out of it and then your AFRs go lean to shit without it.

Then again thats just me, im sure its not hard to make sure your water/meth stays above a specific level and ive even heard of people just using windshield washing fluid as a good substitute for it but for me, just dont want to deal with that.

Just checked my catch can today after a reported 2000~ miles and i actually was quite surprised. Saw a good amount of oil in there and i was actually happy :) Happy to see my catch can is doing its job and within 2000 miles that much oil is not in my motor.
Tried to take a photo but to dark to get a good idea of how much oil it caught. Ill have to measure it the next time around.

Thats great!.

I am running water/meth along with a catch can and the problem I'm having is the catch can is filling up with water/meth along with oil.
It seems when the meth is spraying some of it is getting sucked into the catch can!

I may eliminate the meth once I install my 7th injector this weekend :bravo:

Well I installed my 7th injector kit this weekend. All went smooth but I have to say dropping the gas tank was a royal PIA :mad2:
I'm lucky to have a MAX-JAX lift in my garage :thumb:
The rest was not bad. The instructions from URD are pretty straight forward!

I will see how it performs for the next several weeks then get in to tuning!

i hope you took plenty of pictures for me. ill be asking u questions soon enough.

I took a few, nothing really interesting. Like I said, the biggest PIA was dropping the tank. I was very tempted to cutting my floorboard to swap the fuel pump. Hooking up the injector was just a matter of two screws and wiring to the ECU was fairly simple, just tight space behind the glove box. You may not use all the wires on the URD system. I had 6 wires that are not used.

If you have any questions, please ask, I would be more than happy to help out.

Figure it doesn't hurt to ask. Being in California and needing a smog check, good chance I'm going to need the E.O. Sticker/Smog legal sticker for the supercharger. Anyone have one laying around from a state that doesn't need it? It's the black sticker on the left.

From what I've researched, I haven't read anyone that was able to get one from the dealer.

I need one too. I was considering just printing one off.

Yeah that was my plan if I don't find one. It's pretty simple. Just black and white, not like some other ones like for my airaid that has like silver flecks in it.

Hey guys...I don't live in California, but I'd like to have both of these sticker also...Just for the OEM look. 4Running Daily...are you talking about just printing one of at your house then taping or gluing it down??

There should be some way to contact a printing shop and have these stickers recreated...to that professional/OEM look. To me, yall already have the hardest part done...yall have a picture of the stickers. The picture appears to be clear and of good quality?!

Have either of yall attempt to do this? I personally haven't done this; however, another members on here did. I remember a bunch of us wanted a copy also, so he had how ever many he need made, then just charged us $7-8 each to pay for the sticker and shipping. I want to say he used a local print shop in his town...or I'm sure you could find something on the net?!?!

If or when yall get them made, I'd appreciate an opportunity to get one also. If yall can't find a print shop to do this...let me know, I'll be happy to ask around my town...I know there's a couple shops that aren't to far way.

Thanks guys...please let me know what's up...and if there is anything else I can help with.

Good luck...

Just install a check valve on the PCV valve hose. However the PCV should be pushing air into the S/C and not sucking it in, so they might be some other issue going on.

You can print out the EO from the CARB website and bring it with you when you get it smogged. Same as the sticker.

I have the pulley one. I got that one when I bought the $160 install kit. That one maybe you could get from the dealer. As for printing the other sticker. It's simple black and white. You could easily make it in something as simple as Microsoft word. It's just text and a Trd logo which you can find online. Then with any decent inkjet printer, print it on some kind of Avery label that's big enough. Then if you want it to look even more glossy like the original sticker, take some clear box tape and lay it over.

I'd be more than willing to find a local print shop and buy like 20. I'll send a few emails and see what I can come up with.

Sound great to me...I'm sure there are several guys on here that will jump on this opportunity! Sign me up for a set.

Thank you...

You are absolutely right. The flow of the PCV is into the throttle body. I don't know why my catch can is filling with meth!!

I wonder what happens if I remove the catch can, will the meth get into my oil?

I am running a small nozzle and I have it set to shoot at 3PSI and up!

I guess I will have to do some testing. :ybrick:

Here is what I found on the net: It seems when supercharged, the pressure is reversed!!!!!

Any pressure in the intake causes flow in the opposite direction. This could occur during an engine backfire or if the engine is turbo-charged. The PCV valve can act as a check-valve in these situations. By closing the PCV valve, any positive pressure or fuel vapor is prevented from entering the crankcase. Even a very small amount of positive pressure can force oil passed gaskets and seals and blow gaskets out of place. Failure of the valve to seal positive pressure may damage the engine.

Wow, really? I'm trying to wrap my mind around this one but doesn't make much sense. Intake and plenum work under a vacuum (less than atmospheric pressure) so maybe some of the pressure will leak out? Or maybe the blow-by gases escape after you let off the throttle creating the surge of oily air from the crank case.

Either way, sounds like your PCV valve isn't sealing like it should. You don't want to be pulling water and methanol into your crank case. If it's getting in your catch can it's getting in your engine too, which is REALLY bad.

If the PCV valve is working properly, it should prevent fluid from getting into the crank case because it works like a check valve. In my case instead of being blocked by the PCV valve its going to my catch can.
If i remove the catch can, the meth would just sit in the PCV hose until pressure is reversed where it ends up in my throttle body.

If the PCV is truly sealing though, there should be no air flow going into the PCV in the first place. Unless the water is just collecting at the opening and entering at a very slow drip? But then again once the PCV is blowing air again it should purge the line.

Is you catch can installed in a way that the fittings on the can are the lowest point in the hose? Min hoses are at a slight curve so any water/meth that would come in would not enter the catch can (would be trapped at the middle of the hose) unless the PCV isn't sealing and allowing flow.
