The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

MAF is on the correct way. I had my wife start up the runner and i ran it by modulating the throttle. I could see the BPV modulating with fluctuations in boost, but it still died when i let go of the throttle. Now I'm stuck, anyone got

Short video of me keeping it running, then it dying.

Can I get a picture of it?

No air leaks? Check the 2 on the driver side of the supercharger by the brake booster.

Try pulling the efi fuse for a min to reset the fuel trims.

Pulled the efi fuse for a few minutes. Starts up, then dies. I was able to keep it kinda running by spraying some tb cleaner on the drivers side of the supercharger. I cant tell where it might have a vacuum leak.

Found the issue: loose bolt on the bottom inner sc housing. I'm a moron. Anything I should do with a recently sc'd runner? Ive already got a tank full of 93.

Sweet dude!

So for driving. You will be tempted to mash the throttle every chance you get. It's ok to do it, but be aware the truck is having to learn how to run again ( kinda like a baby walking). It's air fuels ratios are completely different and needs time and miles to figure things out via sensors.

Just drive it, You might have a po171 check engine light Coke up as a lean condition. No worries just clear the code and keep driving. It's noticing it needs more fuel.

Enjoy it.

So I found my TRD S/C last week and getting everything lined up. Really excited to get it on! I've noticed a couple things though. It came off a 2001, and I have a 2000. I was there pulling all the parts, and noticed the TB is different and only has the one cable... so the adapter has only one slot where mine needs two. Also, it doesn't have the IAC Check valve. I've done my research, and apparently you can use the Celica Brake Booster check valve (P/N 44730-10010). Does that sound right? I've seen people buying the actual one for much less, but all the links go to an unknown part that's been discontinued, and the posts are old (probably explains it)

Also, does anyone who installed the S/C on a 2001/02 have the plate with the two-cable adapter that would be interested in selling it? Or would it be possible to fab one up, using mine as an example? I've got a spare 01-02 plate for you in return as well!

Would my rig (1998 5speed) benifit from a urd afr calibrator? Trd never made those correct? Also would a 2.1 pulley be pushing it? 215k on rig with 2nd gen charger and 7th injector kit already installed.

Thanks

Not really. Will only help at closed loop, which means little throttle. Once you press on the throttle significantly, it enters open loop and richens the mixture automatically. $220 that could be spent on something else.

The 2.1 pulley is pushing it only if you have additional fuel mods, which I can't remember if you do or not. If you do not, don't use anything smaller than the stock pulley or it will ping like mad and run very lean.

By the way, 1998 is arguably the best year for the supercharger! Plays nice with the ECU and we have less ping issues than other years. I wanted a 5 speed so bad... maybe a swap if I ever have the time/money.

Well I have a lead on a supercharger system including the calibrator plus the 2.1 pulley. It also comes with the trd headers. I basically would like to drive this thing without worry about pinning. I have the urd 7th kit Btw with the stock map that gadget sent me but I still getting pinging at some rpms. Just wondering if the calibrator will help or if the 7th kit already has the ability to turn the closed loop already.

Btw, I think 5speeds are way more pingy then autos as I can put the rig thur many more different engine loads then the auto.

If you have fuel mods then the 2.1" will work quite nicely! You'll need to re-map your tune though since it creates more boost quicker.

I'd personally not worry about ping at low RPM's. Only at high.

I think it changes in all cases. But yes your exactly right you will have to do some tuning if your going to run the 2.1.

My problem is my timing is off at low rpm 2000-2300. I need to adjust my timing a touch because it goes to around 13 advanced and that's not enough (20 is better) and at 13 it throw a a knock sensor code.

Then again at high rpm it runs great. Afr are in check and timing is high teens.

I recently started getting a squealing sound at high RPMs like its coming from a belt. Once i let off the gas it stops!! Any ideas? I have not rebuilt my supercharger yet! Not sure if thats causing it.

Never got a clear answer on if the urd afr calibrator would be beneficial on my rig. Im getting one in a purchase for other things so It will basically be 'free'. Also, what does the urd maf calibrator do. Also getting that thing in my purchase. Thanks :)

I myself don't know of anyone who has one. When you posteded about it...I was kinda excited to see what it did do...and was it worth purchasing. You might be our "Lab Rat" on the URD AFR...lol!! If so, you'll have to provide us with your findings...thanks

I wish you the best of luck with it!!

It won't help you since you have a narrow band o2 sensor vs the wideband/afr sensor that came on the 2000+ models.

Your best option is the AEM, or if you want to spend all the monies the URD 7th :D

The 7th kit will run closed loop for 99>= and older vehicles if you want to tune closed loop on 00+ you need a calibrator, thus the reason its part of the deal you got, and the 7th injector system if you want to run more boost.

OR

You can run the AEM at stock boost and AEM + big injectors or meth at more boost

YOU LUCKY DOG! I want a set of TRD headers bad, the only reason I don't have them is because they are a pain to install i guess lol.

EDIT: Just reread you don't need the calibrator since you have the 7th already, you just need to turn on the o2 skewing system and you can tune from there.

I beg to differ we can shift down to alleviate ping unlike autos , I never had any ping after I learned to drive to avoid it.

And like gamefreak said don't worry about ping during a bog or low R situation you will get that with pretty much any vehicle regardless of forced induction...

TRD Supercharger

Hi,

Please pardon the newbie question, but putting it out there to see what you all know. Does anyone know a source for the TRD 3.4 Supercharger post 6/30/15? I reached out to Toyota Dallas and they said "Unfortunately all of the TRD superchargers have been discontinued and are no longer available."

If your asking if they still make the TRD S/C...the anwser is yes and no. No, they no long make the TRD S/C for the 3.4 L! However, a company just bought the right to the S/C from Toyota and they are now selling brand new S/C's. I went to their website the other day...price was $2,999. Everything included to do the install. The only difference is...there is no "TRD" on top of the S/C.

I have to run and get my son from school...if know one give you the company name by the time I get home...I'll look through my history and give you the link.
