The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Hey guys...while I was double checking an anwser for kigmob on URD's website...I noticed URD is advertising New TRD supercharges!! He's selling them for $3500...but you can go to LCEperformance and get non-TRD S/C for $2999. So the big question has been answered...How much more is a TRD S/C worth over a non-TRD...according to URD...$500!!!!

They probably did what I was thinking of doing... buy them at MSRP, hold them, and resell at a profit.

Though with LCE picking up the design rights already, it might be a lost cause.

Did you the answer yet? :bounce:

Mods please move to proper forum if needed. I'm new and apologize in advance if im messing up lol

So my brother in law has a 02 runner

We have found a SC from what the seller via CL describes as a SC for Toyota 3.4L engines. Claims it has 75,xxx miles and has had the nose cone oil changed once. He has nothing except the SC and has it advertised for $1,000. I did see the parts list on this thread and sent him the cut and past of the list. He has nothing but the SC itself.

He wrote back he would take $600 for it and thanked me for showing him the info.

What would the cost be to get the rest of the parts needed to complete this kit?

Is that a good price for the SC alone and if so what should I look for? It's about 1.5 hours away from my grand dads place and may take a look at it soon as I will be visiting him shortly.

Of course it relies depending on your expert opinions

Chime away!

Dynamic Tensioner Bolt

Hey everyone, when I installed the dynamic tensioner, the bolt stripped sadly. I drilled it out and retapped the threads, but thankfully was able to source a new bolt. I know they are hard to come by, so I got two right away. If anyone needs a bolt for the dynamic tensioner, send me a PM. Happy to give back to the community that has helped me with my build! This is the longer M10x1.25 hex head bolt, not the countersunk bolt. Sorry

Wow, I looked everywhere for one when I was putting together the other SC kit. Where did you come across the bolt if you don't mind me asking?

I actually found it at Fastenal. They only had like 3 in the country for some reason. It's an M10x1.25, the install guide says the stock bolt is 135mm and the Fastenal one is 140mm. But there's room behind the hole for it (it's hollow back there!)

I was pretty psyched, so I ordered two of them to pass one on to someone who could use it. It's P/N: 11114228 on their website. It's even partial threaded for us too.

Long and short term fuel trim monitering

I have an '02 4Runner with a rebuilt gen 1 supercharger, URD 7th injector, 2.2 pulley.

I have a hunch I'm running rich from looking at my long and short term fuel with a GoPoint OBDII BT1 and I have soot on my tail pipe. I'm installing a wide band A/F gauge to monitor for open loop condition.

Long term is ~13 at idle and ~4-7 at 2500rpm. Short term is all over the place as it should be.

First off I'm wondering if the data I'm monitoring is accurate due to the 7th injector installed. Specifically am I only looking at what the URD unit wants the Toyota ECU to think is going on. Or do I need to be plugged into the URD unit to monitor.

Second if it is accurate then I may need to look for a vacuum leak as when I press the throttle the long term immediately drops.

A positive fuel trim means your lean as would a vacuum leak. Fuel trims should be accurate as long as you're not in the regions that the URD unit is faking out the ECU to add fuel in closed loop. This is what the afr calibrator does. Do you have one of these?

Yes my URD does have an AFR built into the 7th injector.

I am not sure if the OBDII info I'm getting through the GoPoint is faked from the URD. That is one of the main things I'm trying to determine. The the long term fuel trim appears to be a lean condition as you are describing. So before I go hunting for a vacuum leak that doesn't existing I'd like to know if my data is accurate.

The vehicle runs great! no ping on the stock URD map. Like I said the soot on the tail pipe is new since I supercharged however.....

I just want to make sure everything is in good shape since I've installed it.

Does anyone know if reading OBDII information is altered from the URD 7th injector? I'm trying to determine if what I'm reading is accurate or not?

Let's talk exhaust. As an added benefit to superchargers.
Worth it? Better flow over stock?
If the consensus is yes on getting a replacement, I am thinking about a straight through design, magna flow 18".

Or going all out for a cat back. My current exhaust is not that bad shape wise.

The 18" straight through magnaflow would definitely be a benefit. A whole cat back isn't really necessary. Unless you want it to look pretty. I have the 18" magnaflow dumped before the axle. Also deleted my cat with a LC engineering test pipe and used the URD o2 sim to get rid of the CEL. Plus Doug Thorley headers. Sounds perfect. Like I said though, the straight through muffler is the only necessary thing for the SC. Headers do help but are almost not even worth it (PITA to install).

I'm changing the oil in my s/c tomorrow. Any tips? Change it on incline? Change it on a decline? Syringe hose placement?

It should be pretty straight forward, but I haven't changed it before.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to do a nice write-up for us  Please make sure you take lots of pictures for us :thanks:

Cheers...
