The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

You takes about your part throttle pulls and AFR numbers. Any full throttle? Also with more use, how often do you have to refill it?

I'm debating yanking this 7th and going another route.

Edit: I just say your 1/2-full is 13-14. Sounds like you need a larger nozzle for more flow. Perfect I hear is 11.5

The 7th is a lot more tunable. What I am learning is that a meth kit provides a very sloppy tune. The progressive controller is a big plus (anything else is kinda useless) but I have no way to control timing, injector pulse, or closed loop tuning. However, the 7th injector doesn't provide the same engine benefits. A correctly tuned 7th can gain up to 40 HP though from the dyno's I've seen online, I'm not sure my current meth setup can make that much power. It is cheaper though. But this is all speculation, the most powerful engine I've owned before this was a 199 HP hybrid... so this is new territory for me.

Yeah, I have the 225 ml/min nozzle. I ordered a 375 ml/min and a 625 ml/min nozzle to see which will work best. It's obvious I don't have enough fuel at WOT.

Tuning with the 7th is something I've struggled with even since I installed it and went with the 2.2

I'd like to see how that larger nozzle changes things. Do you have plans to go to the 2.2?

Oh, I'm past the 2.2... I have a 2.1" pulley on there right now. I like the extra boost and I have zero detonation, I guess that's a plus for the methanol.

Would a non progressive meth injection with the AEM FIC be worth it? So if the meth kicks on during boost I would lower injector on time and increase as needed. Or is it not that tunable as I am thinking?

I should say, no tuning is needed with a normal supercharger with no extra fuel mods. The only reason why I added more fuel was because of changing from the 2.37" pulley to the 2.1" pulley, which adds more PSI and needs more fuel or I could damage my engine. The stock 2.37" pulley could be tuned with the AEM unit but would not see any major gains.

I actually want my injectors firing at high pulse width AND methanol injecting, or else I'd have some crazy high air/fuel ratios. The AEM FIC lets you also control timing and closed loop injection (which is nice at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle situations). If I get rich and have $600 laying around I'll add it but for now I'm looking pretty good.

I just put my 1st gen charger on after it has been sitting in my garage for 8 years or so. After all those years of day dreaming of how awesome the charger would be and finding out that its not that great... So I'm hoping getting the 2.1 or 2.2 will help that. I just ordered the AEM FIC 6. I'll probably buy injectors next then the pulley. Also meth is always on my mind, but I don't have money for everything.

Did you give it time to adjust? Make sure the belt is not slipping? It should be a noticable difference.

The belt is not slipping. I drove it this morning and what a difference. It happen to be raining and cold out. This is the power I was expecting. So I wonder if this is how the charger will feel with water/meth spraying into the charger.

Also... what size exhaust are you guys running? I still have the stock exhaust manifold and 1 cat. I'll probably get my afr bung welded in next week and delete the 1 cat I have left and maybe up the size of the exhaust.

So.... 2.5" or 3" exhaust pipe?

You may not need it. The instructions said my 02 runner didn't need it. Installed mine yesterday, Took 3 hours

Thank you by the way for the info. It appears any 5vz with drive by wire doesn't have an IACV. Therefore the one way check valve is not needed.

so with my 7th and 2.2 pulley and upgraded fuel pump i am running really rich under boos, I'm wondering if doing the 2.1 pulley would help lean it out a little? also i see for the 2.1 they suggest 93 only but is 91 still good to use or do you have to do 93? I'm at sea level by the way

I was lean. I had to add fuel. Shiz I hate my problems.

We have the Toyota 2.4" piping downstream of the cat, but the down pipe is actually only 2.25". If your smog laws allow it change the down pipe to 2.5" but don't worry about the rest, you won't see gains.

I should say, adding extra fuel without a smaller pulley will not net much gains over a normal supercharger. The smaller pulley allows more boost without damaging the engine (the injectors are tapped out by then and can't supply enough fuel) and the extra fuel just allows you to have it on there.

To the other poster, 93 octane is wonderful with the supercharger. Used it once in Oregon and it ran sooooo good. My engine loved it.

Ok just for record's sake:

I have 2.1" pulley, with a snow performance stage 2 kit with a 625 ml/min.

I have the boost coming on about 2 PSI, and full at about 8 PSI. Runs about 13.5 AFR in closed loop and around 12-12.5 until 5000+ RPM, then hits more like 13.5 at high revs and boost.

I think that's as good as it will get. The 625 nozzle uses up the windshield wiper reservoir really fast, so I'm going to refill it every week I think.

Anyone know if the 7th injector gasket is reusable? I removed the 7th from my SC for some maintenance but not sure if I should bolt it back on with the original gasket or buy a new one? I emailed URD but still waiting for a reply.

Reuse it. Your fine.
