The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Curious about what you guys get for fuel milage

I just bought my first 4runner and it has a supercharger on it, was wondering what other people are getting for fuel milage. Im going to check mine next time I fill up but Ive noticed my gauge seems to be acting weird. When I left to work this morning it read just above half a tank, then headed back home it showed almost full. Won't let me start a new thread since Im so new...

Speedy answered it well, I would add a CEL light is not normal under any means. The stock ECU can handle the supercharger with no issues. The code probably has more to do with either a fouled sensor or vacuum leak. Try cleaning the MAF (search for it on the forums) or replace your upstream oxygen sensor, it may not be reading correctly anymore. $40 on Amazon.

Thank you all! Well I'm going to start here...

Check the code I'm getting just to see what exactly it's throwing. Check MAF, check to see if FMU mod was/is done. Then finally, I found a guy here in CO that specializes in supercharger tunes. Others on the Taco forum have used him so it may end up going to him for final analysis.

Sounds like your sender gauge is broken. Not uncommon for them to be inaccurate (mine is) but it's odd that it is that far off. Best to fill it up and track it via the trip odometer. I average around 16-17 MPG's over the winter and about 18-19 in the summer, so I get around 250 miles before the light turns on.

Search for how to replace the sender gauge, many on here have done it. It does involve dropping the gas tank though.

I've been getting about 16 smilespergallon, gas light goes on after around 215 miles on the trip meter.

Doing some research on adding a dynamic tensioner to my 1st gen SC.

Looks like I can either order the whole kit, or order the pulley arm, then try to score a bracket from Magnusson, and then round up the hardware from various places online.

I found this page on Gadget's site where he cut down the static tensioner bracket to support the nose cone. Anyone else done this?

You can order the bracket and bolts from Magnuson for $150. The other items are easy to fab/source. I have a sheet with the wire loom and dipstick traced that I need to upload onto here so people can make their own. I just got some thin aluminum and made mine.

Also a TW member (@kigmob) did that to his. Not necessary but doesn't hurt to have it.

Boost gauge

Can the T fitting for a boost gauge I want to add be done in the interior under the dash instead of right behind the super charger? I have a 7th injector behind the kick panel.

Thanks

I cut my old pulley bracket like that and it worked on my original nose cone fine. I ended up buying a factory new nose cone to refurbish my S/c and the new nose did not have the hole tapped.

Can someone with a 1st gen measure from the base of the nose cone (where it meets the rotor pack) to the tip of the shaft (just the tip though, to see how it feels...). The TRD nose cone I have is welded onto the pulley so I can't get an accurate measurement. The Buick shaft looks longer but hard to tell.

So I got my own Buick charger today since I needed a nose cone replacement.

The insides are different as well as the shaft overall length.

The good news is its differences are all in the good direction to be able to machine it to what we need.

Red is the Toyota, White is the Buick.

You can add a T fitting on any line that's getting boost, doesn't matter where. Boost is boost, air pressure fills the line very, very fast.

Drain and filling supercharger on vehicle. Any of you guys done in? If so what procedures did you use? I tried to jack the rear end off the gound so it would be at an angle so I could drain it out and nothing came out even at an angle. So I tried to suck it out with a syringe and no luck. Lastly I just used the syringe to force the new oil in which in return forced some of the oils oil out but I thing I'm not really doing it right. Maybe there is something you guys are doing that is working out better? I really don't want to remove the blower or pull the nose cone just to drain the oil.

On a side note what supercharger oils are you guys using?

The hole is pretty small, unless someone has a really small pump I'm not aware of you either have to take it off the vehicle or remove the nose cone. Not really any other way to do it.

I use the GM supercharger oil that's on Amazon and other places.
