The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

I just re-uploaded the pictures, it is black.

Thanks for trying again... Still not coming through but it Could be my phone or something.

Anyhow, here is the actual manual's website. Vacuum diagrams down at the end. Looks like yours is likely the 3rd image down or so, just look at the year range and 4 wheel drive or not.

I'm guessing by your description that it's for the 4wd system.

Shameless plug: let me know if you are interested in an updated vacuum decal, something I make to order for folks on here:

Hope this helps

I think you nailed it with that diagram, given the location of the line it is the 4WD vsv and I need to tee into the evap line connecting to the vacuum port located next to the brake booster vacuum port on the supercharger.

Consider your shameless plug a worthwhile marketing effort, I will be purchasing said decal.

I have everything buttoned up except this last vacuum line that I can’t figure out, can anyone help out? Truck is a 2000 model hence the diagram.

The line connects to the blue check valve looking thing leading back to a vsv and I also included a picture of the stock manifold line routing that connected via a tee to two ports on the stock manifold

Did you get the vacuum routing fixed? I have your same exact routing so I can post a photo of how it should be if that helps. The diagram is pretty clear and you should have an open port next to the brake booster on the supercharger.

Haven't had a chance to fix it yet, going to after work wraps up today. I went out and grabbed a couple tee fittings and adapters to make the connection to the line. If you don't mind sending or posting the picture I am sure it would help out or at least help others in the future, thanks.

whats the most power ever pulled out of a stock motor?

Stock? Meaning no supercharger? Very little. It may be a 3.4L engine but it's not very efficient and the timing and heads are meant for reliability, not performance. It's very hard to make N/A gains on these engines and honestly not really worth it.

Please excuse my wonderful Paint skills. You'll see the vacuum routing below, it's pretty straighforward. However, I noticed just downstream of the t-fitting there's a hose adapter that allows for the smaller 4WD VSV hosing to connect to the larger EVAP hosing. You may not have that piece so will have to find a vacuum hosing fitting that will work. I have something I bought for another project from O'Reilly's that works so any standard part store should have what you need.

Alright CA folks. I finally did it. I reproduced the CARB labels. And as a bonus, I also redesigned the belt routing. And sticklers will see that I even made it more accurate. (For example, the TRD one says "water pump pulley, when in fact it is the FAN pulley). I also omitted "pulley" from each component's name as it seemed redundant.

I know there is some discrepancy regarding which Carb EO number we need but if you read the details of the one I have pictured above, it covers all years as well as the TRD 7th injector kit, likely to cover your ass in the event of a smog inspection.

Let me know if interested. Gotta charge a little something for my time.

I’ll buy some!

That’s perfect, I got my line tee’d in just like your picture and took the truck out on it’s maiden voyage!

With 33’s and 4.10’s I am already thinking about getting more out of the supercharger:eyebrows:

I’ll take one too.

On a side note...can anyone tell me the AFR range I should be at normal cruising speed? Currently at 15.

Normal cruising should always float around 14.7:1. It'll go higher and lower and always be in a state of correction and dance around that magical 14.7. Mine runs a hair under, averaging about 14.4-5. I'd think 15 is normal. Shouldn't see a drop until you start really opening up throttle. General rule is high 12's part throttle, mid-high 11's full throttle.

Others can chime in of course but that's my understanding.

Phew, glad it’s normal. It’s been a while since I’ve driven it at the time SC was new to me, that’s around the time I started throwing the knock sensor code after the install and off the the shop it went.

I think they meant how much power/boost can the stock internals handle, or at least that's how I read it.

For the bottom end, it's very stout. It's been tested time and again that the stock bottom end (including stock head gaskets & bolts) can handle up to 15 PSI. I've personally pushed 12 PSI, only turbos can hit 15 though. There's been a few documented cases of people pushing 20 PSI but it's only a matter of time before you blow a head gasket at that much pressure.

I only ever seem to recall seeing one person that actually rebuilt a 5VZ to handle boost, and them saying it was very expensive. I'd imagine 15 psi should be more than enough for most.

is this worth it and am I crazy

found a used TRD supercharger in my area for 2200. is it worth it.. guy says it has 50 k on it and has everything needed except the belt.

Also I just rolled over 280k am I crazy to do this? from my reading people seem to think the 3.4 is tough enough.
I'd really only want to run it at "stock" psi.. so 6-7 ish

Is that everything included in the picture? Because if so, that's not everything.
