The Crovel is here

So I decided to get a Crovel before the Summit....

It will be interesting to see how it holds up int he field, but so far I'm liking the tool.

Pro's:
Storage in the handle for small items. Feels well made.
Several tools in one (shovel, hoe, hatchet, saw, bottle opener, crowbar, hammer, nail pull).

Cons:
The kydex cover only covers the sides and not the sharp rounded front edge. Not sure if it was worth the money in it's current form.
The para cord is nice on the handle, but will be curious to see how well it stays put under usage.
price; it's not the cheapest, but I guess that's the price for the coolness factor :trophy:

What was your wait time? The website is saying 45-90 for the tactical and 30-90 for the extreme... Wondering if those time frames are realistic.

They are... I kept nagging them for mine because I wanted it before the Summit. I ordered mine on June 4th. one thing to note; I ordered "Crovel Extreme BLK" and obviously got a Olive Drab. I can live with that though; at least I got it on time. (if only my Gobi shovel/axe mount would get shipped!)

So this is getting mounted to the rack? That will look awesome.
 
I like everything about it (especially the cool factor) except the cover. Not much thought put into that eh, leaving the sharp edge exposed is just unacceptable.

Yeah.. as mentioned.. I would not buy the cover 20/20 hindsight. You can fab a better one yourself with some Kydex and a heat gun.

No offense to anyone who likes this thing (I only clicked on the thread because I had no idea what a "crovel" was :)), but there's no way on earth I would wait more than 30 days to get a shovel. Not unless it came with a case of beer and a naked woman.

I'll stick with the U.S. military-issue entrenching tool that I was issued in 1986 and still haven't been able to destroy, despite my best efforts.

I kinda agree but you gotta admit the "cool factor" of the Crovel is exceptional!

But ya I will also stick to my entrenching tool but mine was issued to my dad back in the late 50's and despite years and years of abuse it's still going strong, even has the original heavy canvas cover. :boink:
 
Just spoke to Sandra @ Gobi and my shovel/axe mount should be on my doorstep on Friday.... YAY.. it looks like its going to be on the truck for the Summit after all.

Won't get to make a new Kydex sheath for the Crovel before that time, but that will be a nice post summit project.

For the trip the Crovel will be "bare" as I don't trust the kydex sheath it came with to stay on at highway speed.
