The Cut My Gas Pedal in Half!!!!

I actually work at a P&C Insurance company. No insurance company is going to try to surrogate over a long vs short pedal. This is all fear mongering here....

I think a good rule of thumb is to never trust any further than necessary an organization that has a vested interest in screwing you. :

FWIW driving barefoot as you commented earlier is illegal. At least in my state it is.

Really? I'll have to check on that. Personally, I fear getting my sandal caught on a pedal.

The numbers and the facts are not on your side... To date the number of insurance companies trying to subrogate against ANY Toyota driver who failed, delayed or refused this recall... ZERO... On the other hand the number of Toyota drivers who have submitted claims against their insurance and/or Toyota USA claiming their innocence and a vehicle defect after they accidentally pressed the wrong pedal... hundreds! You are on a one way street going against the flow.

Trust me... a few of us here in the insurance industry are actively watching the case law on this one. None of what you say that will, could, or even might happen, has. ALL of the lawsuits have been the OTHER way... with the insurance and Toyota HQ on the defense. Toyota was weak on this at first... However, since they have been more aggressive we can see that EVERY reported case since the recall has been pedal misapplication. Long pedal, short pedal, didn't matter ALL of them pedal misapplication. Every Insurance Lawyer knows this too. To successfully subrogate you need to over come this huge pile of one sided case law and evidence.

I welcome you to post some evidence of Toyota USA or ANY of the dozens of Car insurance companies subrogating against anyone who failed to accept this useless recall.

Yes the insurance industry is there to screw you over.... Right up to the point that you need us... Then suddenly we are your best friend.

MY GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK THIS WEEKEND!

Well it happened just like they said. I've been driving my 4 runner for 3 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened.

Here's the kicker...I have Weathermats! ...they're solid plastic and don't move.

Here's what happened....I was head'n up the on ramp to the hwy and stuffed the gas pedal ...as usual... and when I lifted my foot off of the pedal it was stuck at full throttle. Kinda terrifying! I did what most of us would do ...restomp the pedal like you're pumping the gas and it released.

When my heart slowed down a little and the traffic was sparse I did some testing and I found out that if my toe is what was pushing on the pedal (pushing from the lowest point of the pedal) it will get jammed against the mat. I don't usually use my toe, but my foot was in an unusual position I guess.

I too got the recall notice just last month and I tossed it.

I just figured you guys would get a kick out of this.

AND..... the brake pedal will STILL stop the car,(every car with a toyota badge on it) even with your foot to the floor on the gas

I took my runner in for an alignment and oil change and they told me the same thing. I asked them what the recall entailed and they told me they trim the gas pedal AND mess with something in the ECU to allow it to cut power if the pedal is ever stuck...I don't want this done to my car.

My understading from the recall notice and a phone conversation w/Toyota customer service is that the brake override feature is NOT being installed on 4Runners as it is with other Toyota models. Has anyone here who had the recall done actually verified this? In other words, does the accelerator deactivate when you press on the brake pedal on your "fixed" 4Runner?

Received the notice 3 mos ago. So bringing my vehicle there for the recall, would be the consent... I called, though I already knew, and yes they will not tell you that they are going to cut the pedal, they said there are new safety guidelines for pedal design and the 4th gen needs a modification to comply such.

i got the notice, but they dont know what.

but if i take my 4runner in for say a minor fix, and they do that without notifying me prior i would punch someone in the face. i feel i should have a say wether or not they do it.

I just had mine cut yesterday. I don't care for how it looks but I don't notice any difference in driving -- my foot always engaged the pedal about half way up anyhow. I'm going to ask them to order the factory replacement for me.

I suspect a good portion of the floor-mat problems (if not ALL of them) were due to the fact people weren't using the little hooks to keep the floor-mat in place.

I was just at the dealership the other day for a flush. I told them right off the bat NOT to cut my pedal, and they didn't. Just let them know first and avoid messy pedal later.
