The Dobinsons MRR have arrived!

My Dobinsons MRR kit for my GX470 arrived from Australia last Friday, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm pulling off an OME medium duty kit, which I wasn't unhappy with, but wanted to run the product i'm selling.

I went with front MRR coilovers, rear MRR shocks, C59-314 front coils, and C59-325 rear. After unboxing the set, it appears i've made a GREAT choice. The packaging was nice, everything was where it was supposed to be and the reservoirs protected with a plastic cover.

Calipers confirm the 2.2" body on both main and reservoir for front and rear. Threads on coilovers were clean and the locking rings spun easily. It came with two spanner wrenches and all new hardware sans the top hat (expected). The resi hoses move freely at the fitting and have plenty of length for various mounting options. The lower stems are BEEFY and the powder coat/anodizing all look great. I was planning on installing them yesterday, but rain messed up my plans. Hopefully i'll be able to get it done this week.

i don't know how to feel about the rubber bushing on the lower stem. if its anything like the toytec boss 2.0s those bushings will have to be replaced all the time.

Or the reuse of OEM tophats with the resi line coming off the active end of the shock? Should be an interesting installation. Not that all products should be copy paste of others but this one sure looks different, maybe that's a good thing! We'll be watching.

You can get new tophats with these, mine are OK so I didn't get them.

The resi line coming off the bottom is a result of the main body being on the bottom instead of the top, there is plenty of slack to allow full articulation. The big advantage of it being set up this way is your shaft is protected from rocks and other debris.

Time will tell!

Just don't torque them in the air with arms hanging. That preloads the rubber and leads to fast wear. A very common installation error.

These look interesting, can you please post details/options/pricing? Even better, how about a group buy? I bet a bunch of people would jump on these if you offered a decent discount that required a detailed review/write-up. :uzi:

Normal price is $1650 for the full kit (front and rear resi's + coils). The coils are stocked stateside, the MRR is going to be stocked over here but is still on a container headed this way. The international shipping on container is free, but can be shipped via air freight if you don't want to wait for the boat (about $250-275). Domestic shipping on 4 coils is approximately $50.

There are tons of coil options available from 2-3" in lift height with and without added weight.

A group buy could be interesting...

I could go for a group buy come august time! Will there be an option for these with the 5th gen?

im sure yall have tons of testing with them but i've had to replace the bushings in my BOSS coilovers a few times, even with torquing them with the suspension settled on the ground. i know apples and oranges, it's just something to keep in mind. i will keep my eye on these since it's getting time to look at new coilovers, and i was real impressed with the dobinsons trucks out at the red clay rally this past weekend.

These look great, but why reuse the OE-style top plate? It's simply not designed for heavy offroad use.

Rear MRR is installed and lookin' pretty. I intentionally kept it pretty close to the same as far as lift goes in the rear, and will level it out in the front with the coilovers. Install was easy peasy, took roughly 3 hrs (including some other mods I did while there). I used an existing threaded hole in the frame on the drivers side for the resi bracket, and self tapped the bracket on the passenger side. They'll probably be moved so I don't hit while flexing, but these spots were easy and I was le tired. I'm going to wrap the hoses with some spiral wrap for a little protection as well.

The back feels better, the overall ride is expectedly uneven with the nitro gas OME shocks up front. I'll make a full report on ride when the fronts are done.

That will be coming at some point in the future with a new shock range, with a solid-type upper mount. Those can be a real headache though due to the bushing type and potential for noise. Kind of like a uniball vs balljoint UCA's. So there's definitely a lot of time spent working out all those things before making them available.

These MRR shocks and struts were made keeping budgets in mind and since we're also using our off-the-shelf coils that aren't super high spring rates, the upper strut mounts have been holding up without any issues so far.

The fronts are in! Install was simple, disconnected the sway bar and slid them in. I set the ride height to 8 3/8" on the drivers side and 8 1/2" on the passenger side to compensate for KDSS lean. I have some tweaking to do as i'm still 1/2" high on the drivers side, but that was expected.

I reused my old top hats, and slid the preset c/o's in. I installed the resis on top of the spring perch, I do need to verify there won't be any issues during flex and move if necessary, just needed to get back on the road this morning.

I really like the look, and the initial 30 miles the ride was awesome. MUCH nicer than the nitro kit I had on previously.

I would get some p-clips and hold that hose down in a couple places but leave some room for body/frame relative motion.

What's KDSS (joking)? Is this not a 4th gen? edit, nvm I see it's a GX. We all have a low drivers side not a too high drivers side.

I'm going to go through the full range of articulation front and rear to verify the tires don't touch the resis in their current locations, then i'm going to wrap and secure the hoses.
