Man, great pictures. Just chilling out. Can't wait to see the install. Keep up the good work.

... how do you explained the compression leak down test blowing constant air out of the radiator?
and also when we pulled the engine there is also external leakage on the left cyclinder head in several places

A blown head gasket can cause both of those symptoms. The existence of an external leak doesn't necessarily imply that the block or head is warped. It's probably not fun hearing this, but I agree that it's totally plausible that you just had a blown head gasket. No one can say for sure but you since you're the guy with the engine in front of you.

Good luck with your project. Bottom line is that when you're done, your 4Runner should be working just fine.

you guys are pretty much preaching to the choir, i am aware it can just be the headgasket, but it really comes down to time, with the engine to access the head (unlike older models) you need to pull the timing chain cover which is the front half of the engine, remove the oil pan, oil sump (lower half of the engine) basically dismantling the whole complete engine and then we have to do the tests to see for sure and the have the pleasure of putting it all back together and since its a vvt-i its just makes it so much more complicated, as i mentioned earlier with the other cases in other cars- all the techs replaced the engine, the way i look at it is im paying 1400 for a young engine, not just repairing a 120k engine so its cost and time effective in this situation, believe me, we have thoroughly researched this whole process and spoke with many many people that have done the same thing personally- and the route we are taking was suggested being the best route so we'll see right?

It sure didn't sound like it since you were asking how to explain two symptoms that could obviously have been caused by a blown head gasket.

I'm confident that others not as auto-tech-savy would have easily been confused by your line of questioning. Glad we set that straight - carry on.

hahah i was confusing my bad!

what i meant what that ive been open to the idea from the beggining that is could be anything and i was expecting the worse so i dont downplay the situation and be let down even more

I went 4wheeling and mud got caked in the engine and caused two pulleys to seize which in turn caused the serpentine belt to snap. When the belt broke I was only a mile away from the dealership and the engine was running hot so maybe that made the existing problem worse?

Uh...aluminum engine...broken serpentine belt? If you shut down the cooling system on any engine it is tow truck time but it is ultimate engine death time with an aluminum one. Your misfire could have been as simple as a bad spark plug coil or wire. You most likely cooked the block & heads by driving it to the dealer.

Next time...if there is one call the flatbed tow service. $150 is much cheaper than a new engine.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....

there has been some time go by since the last time i posted and thats because we came to a problem when we were hooking up the wiring harness, so all the plugs are fitting correctly and then we get to the cam sensor type and the plug doesnt fit, so we pull the sensor and it a completly different type of sensor from a 04 block to a 05 block, it changed to a mre (so?) type sensor that detects time immediately when the engine cranks over and not at 200rpm plus like the old type sensor so its a more efficient type but what that means is that this engine wont work!! in order to make it work we would have to disable the whole timing system swap cams and who knows what else so we decide to have the company we bought the engine from locate us a new one....

and some weeks go by....

and some more weeks go by....

until this week when we finally have a engine!! well its on its way down from oregon, its a 04 engine, with 15,000 miles, great compression and all diagnosis checks come out great, the only bad side is that its a few hundred more :(

so it should be here this following weekend and this next wednesday we are gonna get prepped by getting the old engine ready to send back, i.e take off the freshly installed water pump and a few other things-

cant wait to be done with this whole thing!!

Are you calling me a noob?!

Not you Josh, sorry to clog up the thread, but I hate when someone starts a post with "uh" I was commenting on the noob who was trying to educate you on engines, apparently not noticing the fact that you are doing your own engine swap. Good luck with the new motor.
