The EquineRunner Thread [Ordered ARB Today!]

Hey, everybody. I'm new here, but I want to show you all my very SLOW progress in building my truck. I'm located in NorCal, somewhere between Sacramento and Auburn. My goal is a daily with the possibility of going offroad without looking like a wimp. I also plan to take it to the Annual Toyota show in Long Beach, CA.

Specs:
1997 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4x4 Auto
White, Oak Interior
160,000 miles, Nearly Mint Condition

Modifications:
ARB Bumper
OEM Hitch

My Modification Plans:
Running Boards are coming OFF! I am SO tired of whacking my ankles on them!
GY Duratracs
Wheels ( Off Road Warehouse - Wheels KMC XD122 Series KMC XD 15" x 7" WHEEL 5x114.3 OS -6 MM, CB 83MM in 16x8's )
2.5" Lift (3rd Gen, scroll down a bit: Slee - Toyota Tacoma Suspension )
Some kind of stereo system (haven't decided)

Stuff that has to be done soon:
Timing Belt/Water Pump/Tensioner/Thermostat/WP Housing
Spark Plug Wires [Done]
Ball Joint check
Air Filter
Tire Rotation
Brake Check

I am in no sense of the word rich, so these mods and general upkeep work is going to be a long, drawn out process. For now, I am just happy to have a reliable daily.

Nice find....I look forward to see your progress. Im in the progress of looking for a 4runner myself.

Awesome ride, for sure. An ARB and those wheels will look killer on there. Dont worry we will help you spend your money = )

Thanks :snacker:

Ahaha for sure! :P

It's going to be about 3 weeks for the bumper... it's one of 9 on a ship from Australia. My dad got a screaming deal on it at a 4x4 show yesterday and couldn't help himself :zoom: . I was planning on getting wheels and tires first, but he changed my decision for me haha.

I love my Runner... I am still in shock that I got it so cheap and that it is so mint. I'll have to get some interior and close up exterior pics on my next sunny and off-work day (after it gets a bath, too, of course).

Can't wait for the lift. I know with that bumper the front end it's going to sag- but it will balance the typical back end sag :bravo: FTW!

Not much will be happening until I get the bumper... maybe another week until I can order my spark plug wires (and stop the damn hesitating!!).

The hardest thing is talking my dad (ASE Cert'd Master Mechanic) into getting outside in the cold with me to get to work ;) I'm not much of a mechanic myself... but this project may change that.

Well modding your 4runner can be quite addicting! Somehow you would never run out of items to do your your new ride. Post some pictures with your new upgrades.

Mhmm, loving the Whelen Liberty on that Crown Vic, I wish my department would have purchased them.

So on Saturday I was headed over to my brother's house (35 miles away) and my CEL came on. I knew the spark plug wires needed to be replaced, but it seemed to drive fine after being warmed up, so I wasn't worried about driving it. Well, I should have been, haha. I was halfway there, so I turned around and limped home, taking the backstreets to avoid high speeds. It seemed to run fine, but the light was on. Thankfully my dad is an ASE Certified Master Technician so he had his handy code detector thing. I was praying it wasn't a rod knock or something, and was pleased to find out it was just the spark plug wires, as originally suspected.

So Sunday my dad picked up the wires (and I forked over $80) plus new spark plugs (which I owe him money for) and got to work. I am so happy it's done. I dont have to warm my car up for 30 minutes anymore! Just a simple 10 minute warm up and I'm outta here. :D

Also found out today that my ARB is ready to be picked up :drummer:

I'll let you guys know when it's installed :)

I decided tonight that I am taking the running boards off. I hate them with a passion. I keep whacking my ankles on them, and it's driving me nuts. I originally wanted to keep them (I like how they look), but I don't use them, and my ankles hurt, xD

They should be off next week.

So, the running boards haven't come off yet. But they hopefully will tomorrow...

when I put on my new tires and wheels!! WHOOO!!

OPEN COUNTRY M/T | Toyo Tires

Got em used and SUPER CHEAP. 80% tread and I can't tell you what I paid or you'll be scratching your eyes out.

Got em at Schwab again, SUPER CHEAP. :) Might have them powdercoated before mounting and balancing, but idk yet.

Let me just say, people REALLY need to do their research on what they have before they sell them heavily discounted.

Is that another 4runner with an ARB around the corner from you??
lifted??

No... that's an 88 pickup. Not lifted, it just has over sized tires and a Warn Transformer winch mount.

Just kidding, haha. Yes it is :) That would be my dad's 2007 w/ ARB, 3.5" lift (heavy duty OME suspension), Warn winch. No meaty tires yet, but they're somewhere in the foreseeable future.
