The Expo Dawg Project -- 2nd Gen '95 T4R

So today getting back to the Dawg... Auto trans work... Yuk!
On my trip to Moab the trans had a Speedo gear shaved to nothing, shift solenoid went bad and an over heating problem pulling long hills. I was able manually force the shifting and kept it out of O/D on hills and made it thru the trip. Since I got home I've fixed the Speedo gear and been driving it around, with none of the other issues.
Decided to go ahead and change all the solenoid and while I'm in there I did a shift reprogramming kit. The factory trans shifts extremely soft, causing excess wear on the trans guts. This should firm up the shifts and reduce slipping, therefore reducing heat.

This job was a MESS! Trans fluid bath a couple of times... And I left it draining overnight.

The brains... A little daunting if you've never done this before.

Got it all done, filled it with fluid and drive it around the hood a bit. The shifts really firmed up at WOT, now has a positive engagement feel. It does feel (butt dyno) that there's less slipping, seems like more power is going to the ground instead of disappearing in the trans. Other than that, very little difference felt during normal driving.
I used the "truck" settings during the kit install. There was a "hot rod" setting as well but I've felt those shifts before... Lose your fillings during WOT shifts.

Very informative thread. That rear bumper looks awesome. I particularly enjoyed the different beer pairings with each project.

wow really love this build. I was looking for some ideas for bumpers to order for my 94 and found this. awesome job on the bumpers and on the storage area in the back.

WOAH!!!

This is a FANTASTIC 2nd gen build!!

Only thing I'd say, is this puppy needs a Supercharged 3.4 auto conversion ;-)

Incredible fab work man. Freaking beautiful!!

bought an '94 yesterday. Been looking at lots of build threads and yours is by far the best. Love it, nice work! And thanks for sharing.

So.... I'm seriously considering selling this rig. Life circumstances have brought change a that would benefit from its sale. I've got an opportunity to do something else for a year and the truck would just sit. I would rather sell it off to someone that will use it and then start something new when I'm able to do so.

If any of you know someone looking for a solid 2nd Gen in the VA, NC, WV or MD area, please pass on this build page. They can PM me and I'll exchange contact info.

i would store it if you have a place to keep it.

I could let it sit in the garage and have one of my friends drive it occasionally.
As it is now, I cruise it to work a couple times a week but it's not my daily.
I only get to make it out wheeling a couple times a year and that won't get any better in the future.

This build is ready to rock; someone else can reap the benefits and enjoy it.
Couple of small maintenance items to tidy up and it goes up for sale.

i can totally respect that. someone will get a good solid rig to explore with

Love the build, hope you don't mind if I steal the general idea for your bumper design. I was looking to get some tube bumpers and rock sliders, but the aggressive look you made is awesome!

Go right ahead! That's what I did. Didn't really love anything on the market at the time so I took pieces of various other bumpers and molded them all together.
Mock it up in foam board... try different designs, make it your own. Pretty cheap entertainment really, I built four different ones before I settled on my front design. Tip: You only need to build one side... Just mirror it when you cut metal.
