I have a problem... I'm addicted to 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runners... Every time I see one, I turn around, I stop and stare, I analyze it, and they are just awesome to look at. Other 4Runner generations catch my eye as well, but the 3rd gens have a special place and attraction, I'm not even sure why!

Other people (sane people) think I'm crazy when I talk about them or point out other 3rd gens and talk about them...

And whenever I walk away from or within sight of my 4Runner, I'm always studying it and staring at it and such...

I think we need a 4Runners Anonymous. haha I'm kiddding. Just wanted to share how I feel about them!

I like the 3rd gen alot also, something about the real truck looking lines and great styling even 10 years later...... i do have mixed feelings because i love my Z too, but that gives me a different kind of grin when driving compared to what my t4r gives me

I just bought it a couple weeks ago and have been wanting one since i got rid of my 2000 Tacoma, i looked at 4th gen since it was in my budget to get one with no finance and was tempted at the 5th gen but was a little short and didnt want to finance anything..... ended up with the 3rd gen and didnt look back, it took awhile to find a 5speed with decent miles (135k) but i know i will have something that will last awhile and be able to sell incase i change my mind

I got OCD also and have so many plans because i keep reading builds on the forum... cargo box, lift, tires, custom sub, disable DRL.... there is many more but i have so many tabs open in google chrome my screen is blurry on what thread im actually on :jump:
 
When the old lady just spots one youve been eyeballing for 2 blocks.... Gets annoyed every time you get online, knows your on t4r.... Walks away as soon as you start walking around and looking at the one you just parked next to... Rolls her eyes when you park next to the other one in the parking lot

I'm a 350z / 3rd Gen owner also. Both a great cars but I have been contemplating on selling the Z and buying another 4Runner! Sounds crazy but these are great trucks. Most likely won't do it unless the perfect Runner popped up and I could sell the Z for a decent amount. Happy driving.

Oh, and I also have the same addiction. :) My GF gets annoyed every time I point out a 4Runner. My brother who is totally into Z cars thinks 4Runners are common cars. Hard to disagree with him on that point but there are so many different directions to go with these Rigs. One one thing you can really do in a sports car.

Ugh, I wish I had gone for a 350 instead of the Crossfire... anyhow... 1st and 3rd's are definitely my fav's. Particularly the 84-85's, love that they had that solid axle under them! I can't help but wish that there was an option for it under modern light trucks and suv's.

Yeah that was a problem i was having with the Z, i could only do a couple things with it, so needed something bigger to haul people, go shoot, hike, bike the list goes on, along with having something for the snow, hauling things, moving, etc...
The Z could only carry 2, barely fit groceries for one, go sideways and other illegal activities....
I myself have the Z up for sale, but right now no one wants to pay anything for them since winter time, might have to wait until MAR/APR to get anything for it
 
yeah if I see another 3rd gen in a shop i'm going to I try to park close to it, as a remembrance to what stock looks like, lol. Was caught by another 3rd gen owner looking at their truck in the lot, thought he was going to attack me till he realized I owned the non-stock one next to his. . :lol:
3rd's have been my fave since Highschool I even dated girls just cause they had one, lol
 
i agree!! LOL!! i live in KY...and they is not another RUNNER lifted here at ALL!! So i am all ALONE!! BOOOOOO!!! They are a few Tacomas running around here but 99% are all on a body lift, beat to hell, and looks like you would be wrenchin instead of wheelin' whenever u get on a trail...SO I AM ALL ALONE HERE IN SE KY!! :crybaby:

I like 4runners too but lately my love for the superior looks and off-road capabilities of the Ford Escape are ousting my affection for 4runners.
 
I'll chime in here with a true work story:

So it turns out my boss and our chief accountant (CFO) at the non-profit I work at both drive 3rd Gen Runners, though they've kept their trucks stock.

We got to talking one day and my boss said his Runner has 215,000k on it. He's the original owner and never had trouble with it beyond routine maintenance. Our CFO has almost 180,000k, and basically the same story.

About 2 weeks after the conversation, I got a promotion. Full disclosure: Yes I expected it, but I'm sure having a Runner hastened the deal cuz they know I have great taste in vehicles.

Moral of the story: Drive a Runner and get promoted! More money for mods.

And yes, I admire other Runners too.

I too am guilty of this! any time I pass a t4r i feel part of a "club" yeah that's right im a bad ass too!... Im always talking of "wish list" with both of our t4r's and my husband just smiles and nods... were roll reversed in this family! :zoom:
 
There's something about these 4Runner's. I seem to notice all gens but 3rd gens are my favorite. I remember going to the dealer back in the late 90's with our 3rd gen for servicing and seeing all the new 3rd gens and Land Cruiser's on the lot.

I guess I could say I've been an addict since 1996.
 
Hawaii is paradise...3rd gens everywhere!

I love how the 3rd gens are a nice blend of "classic" and "modern" Toyota. It's funny because pretty much everyone I know thinks that my love for these vehicles is a bit obsessive. Haha
 
I said some sort of sexual innuendo to my wife the other day and she said "honestly, you've got a one track mind" I told her it wasn't true 'cause sometimes I think about my truck.
