The "Hidden" GPS Mod

sweet dude! i cant wait til i get it so i can listen to CDs for longer then a week... haha but for the visor, thnx for the offer dude but i dont think ill end up needing it since i already like it now even though it doesnt look perfect.

John ur the man dude, im glad there are ppl on here like u that are willing to help out some with parts... POSITIVE REP!

looks like its going north east a bit though

ya ill try to get one later on after work since my camera battery died... if i can find my 2nd battery i might be able to get it up sooner.

dude! you got looted! that's messed up, glad to see you not whining about it and taking some proactive steps to foil the crap bags who did this to you. good one ya.

i like this and might consider doing it on the passenger side as well it seems like it would be less intrusive to my face and i can get a better angle on it looking that way, also since your the man on this now, lol, what do you think about that?

also how do you guys use your gps? do you mostly use the audio cues or do you have it muted and just look at the pics?

well i the only prob with it being on the passenger's side is that it becomes a pain to look up and put in an address and wat not on it. I dont typically use it that often but when i do use it i typically look at the pics from time to time bc the sound works but my subs are very loud. I do use the voice when on long road trips instead of looking at the map every 5 seconds...

I use the visual cues about 80% of the time and use audio the rest. My unit speaks the street names, but oddly enough, the voices that are used to speak street names are much softer than the voices that are used to just say "turn left or right". Even at full volume, the spoken street name voices are not that loud.

I would prefer all the voices be the same volume.

ok so i ended up testing my spliced wire and it worked this time and so i finished up the install and well hope u guys like the final product for now... might make some few changes but im really happy with how it is now.

so i just tested it on the way to work and everything seems to be in order and the view is pretty good... The signal is just as accurate as it on the windshield which was a major concern for me.

I mounted mine on a clam shell mount and put it where the sun glass holder was on my overhead console. It retracts up into the pocket when its not in use. I went with the Navigon unit because it has an optional antenna input so that i could mount it anywhere. I currently have the antenna on the dash over on the passenger side near the windshield...

Very nice install. I haven't used my gps in a while but I was always looking for a permanent mounting spot rather than fight with a suction cup on a dirty windshield lol.

vader: looks good dude... i thought bout putting it there but then its in the way of the rear view mirror and i use that pocket to put my sunglasses in. I only went with the garmin bc i got this one free from my cousin after my first one got stolen so im just working with wat i got since im spending money on other mods i feel are more important.

ya ian i like this spot bc i dont use my gps that often but its in the car and lately my suction mount has been falling off the windshield by itself without the system even on it. So im really pleased with how its stealthy and mounting is convenient compared to the suction cup.

Looks good man, if you can find a face plate to mount over that whole thing it would make it look really sick, but as it stands its pretty cool man, I'm keeping this in mind

ya dude i thought bout doing a face plate to mount over it and im currently working on that since i finally bought a dremel last night but itll sit like this for a while. I started the cutting of it but im so busy with work so itll be a while before i finalize the face plate. ill keep yall posted on its progress...
