The Husky Runner Build (2021 TRD Pro)

Tuff Stuff Alpha RTT

Husband, his buddy, and myself spent yesterday figuring out how to rig up, and install the RTT so that it can almost be done with 1 person.

Used a amazon chain hoist
Large ratchet straps
Gorilla utility cart
Plyo Box
and a tree on our land

RTT Engaged!

Went camping with our new RTT and got to try it out! We didn't put it up 100% perfect so it'll be better next time but it was already amazing.

The Tuff Stuff Alpha fit myself and my husband (6'2") + our husky without any issues. The annex is spacious and great for changing and storing stuff.

Super excited for our upcoming overlanding trip and so happy with our new tent!

I think the thought process is that the base MSRP of roughy 8k between the TRD ORP to the TRD Pro, isn’t worth the 3k you clear in harvested parts. Even with employee pricing, one would assume TRD Pro’s still command a premium over the ORP (a premium that does extend to resale values, which is point back in your favor). I only comment on this, because most of my career has been in finance, and evaluating opportunity costs of different options.

However, there was no need for him to be offended by how you choose to build your 4runner. We all value things differently. I’d love a lime rush pro, but my white ORP will have to do. Only thing that matters is that you are happy.

I agree! If he had asked why we wanted a Pro over an ORP (we did look at them side by side) - for us the price difference was different. so you are talking less than $2-3k in the end, which eventually if we sell the vehicle, we will get back without question.

Beyond the financial aspect - there is more than that:
Pro has automatic headlights - ORP does not
Pro has a skid plate (even though not the best, does have one) without adding it later
You have small things like the valance is black, and the grill badge arguably looks better on the Pro than ORP
Then you have ORP upgrades, the sound systems, the multiple terrain, all these bring the prices for an employee very close.

BUT THE BIGGEST - dual climate control. On long road trips this is essential, I like it warmer and my husband likes being in an icebox. This is a personally very valuable feature.

So when you stand back - look at what we want, what we plan to do, and the future of the vehicle - it may see silly, but in actuality it only made sense to get a TRD Pro

Also people can get jealous and that OK :) And yes thank you - we are extremely happy !

Makes more sense to me. You’re a young whipper snapper... back in my day (2018) they only offered a V6, 5 speed manual, and a rear diff locker. We didn’t have no dual climate control and our multi terrace monitor was a guy named doug who we let tag along because nobody else wanted to get dirty.

Exploring our new home

Life took some changes and we are lucky to have moved to the state of overlanding and outdoor exploring!! Colorado is already perfect!

Fitting 34" tires with a -32mm takes some work

For reference: Icon Suspension & upper control arms, coachbuilder 1/2" shim, icon Rebounds 17x8.5 with 0 offset, Spidertrax 1.25" spacers, 285/75/17 Toyo Open Country MTs.


The pinch welds were periodically cut and laid back (makes it easier). The BMC was done (sorry for the shitty welds). The fender liner was pinned back with a self tapping screw. And then the next series of photos shows the current progression of cutting the fender, fender/rocker black cap, and some of the fender mounting points. May have over cut some areas but it's a work in progress.


Still rubbing on the toy tab (of the metal tab the fenders attach to) - will have to trim/bend that this weekend.
