Great meeting you for a bit @ T4R Experience! I meant to talk to you regarding replacing the fairing to better integrate my light bar.... I'll let you guys get back to normalcy and shoot you an email!

although its a pretty meager start compared to the mods on most of the rigs here, i was really excited to get our first pair of crossbars (ruggedized steel) delivered today. i chose these based on the modular build path you can take towards a full rack, the crossbar height (so i can mount my Thule Sonic XL without the feet hitting the roof sheetmetal) and the design looks really stout. great price point too.
honestly though its such a great feeling to see something arrived so well packed. that custom cut foam padding for an exact fit and everything bagged neatly...tells you a lot about the level of quality right off the hop. looking forward to getting these on tonight and i'll get some shots of them in use soon.

Add my two cents to this comment, because I suck at posting a pic... but that was exactly my sentiment when I received my crossbars about a month ago
Even some 'extra' hardware in there, just so I have it when I need it. You guys are awesome!

Definitely agree, my rails came in one of the best packaged boxes I have ever seen!
Interested in the cross bars but have a few questions.
-I really only need two (ski box) but am concerned with wind noise so thinking of adding a 3rd and the fairing. Any suggestions? Any way to integrate the fairing and only use two bars?
-Is there a standard lead time for the bars?
Part of me is thinking to wait it out for a Black Friday sale..(I think last year was 20% so thats a pretty big difference) but I would need the bars early december when the ski hills open up.

It depends on how you are mounting the box. If ti bolts to the crossbars you could only have the two with the faring, but if it clamps around the crossbar you'd need three.
We average around four weeks lead time. We won't know about a black Friday sale yet, it will depend on several factors (and the CFO gets the final word also), but four weeks following black Friday would put arrival in late December.

i just installed my 2 bars which i mentioned i'll be using mostly to carry our cargo box. i tested them out today on a longer drive and there is definite humming/resonance most pronounced at 50 and 70 mph. this is with each bar mounted in the factory recommended locations on the rails for minimum wind noise. keep in mind my 4R is completely stock right now, so those with larger tires might not notice it as much over the road noise. i'm going to go ahead and order another bar + fairing, so that my cargo box has 2 unused crossbars to clamp around. you could certainly just get the fairing but if your roof box has feet that need to clamp around the front/back of each bar, you're going to have to unbolt the fairing every time you want to install the box. more work than i'm interested in.
i'm not upset about it - all crossbars make a level of noise, and given the flat top/square design of the LFD and the hollow underside i knew it would make some level of turbulence. some times you just have to try it out to know. i'm glad they offer a fairing so i don't have to fab my own or hack up another brand to make it work.
My ski box is held on with clamps, so likely have to order 3 to make use of the fairing.
Any chance there are any other upcoming sales before black friday? Im sure I could be enticed to order earlier! (Even with shipping, havent looked at the cost to ship to Canada yet)

Using steel bars with the windfairing ( i have 4) I haven't really noticed any increased noise while driving 60-70mph

I have aluminum and without the wind fairing it is loud and whistles. Not even close to tolerable. But with the fairing no problem. I am just guessing aluminum was the cause but I also have the stock roof rails so perhaps with the LFD roof rails it wouldn't be nearly as noisy. Just get the fairing either way.
Aluminum cross bars are 2.0 lbs, steel are 4.7 lbs. So maybe 5 lbs of weight reduction if you have two and no rust as well which is the main reason I got them.

I don't have my Thule cargo box (the one pictured) on right now but I can get a few pics of how I have my bars after work.
I have 3 bars, one almost all the way up front with the wind deflector, another bar just behind (leaving about a 3-4" gap between the bars) and the third about 80% of the way back. I have the two bars up front in this configuration because I don't think there's enough room between the wind deflector and the bar it's mounted on to fit the Thule clamps. You might be able to make it work with two and a deflector.
You NEED the wind deflector. These bars are great and super beefy, but that beefiness comes with a boxy cross section that is really, really loud w/o the deflector.
Thank you for the input. I will have the wind deflector as I ordered the 7/8 rack kit. Just curious if the clamping mounts of the Thule will work or any of the "claw" still clamps. If not, what other options for mounting a cargo box are compatible with these LFD racks?

I use a thule force xt. It has a clamp that almost looks like a "C" that close around the bar. It has an internal ratchet that clicks when tourqed correctly. And its deep enough for the clamp to reach under to clamp the way its supposed to. Works great.Anyone mounted a Thule or Yakima cargo box onto their LFD racks?
