The Most AMAZING 4X4 Trip Ever!!! PIC AND VIDEO HEAVY

no good i graduate this summer lots of things planned...such as Germany for two months and maybe the BMW driving school in NC

That's in SC, about 20 minutes from my house.

That trip looked like a lot of fun. Great weather.

I love those H1's.

BTW, Glen's 4runner is not exactly "open." If his 4runner is 2001, then it has ATRAC.
nope, he disabled the ATRAC, he has a bypass switch. he does NOT like the first gen ATRAC at all, lol.

You better be careful...one day, you may need those hillbillies' help off-road...i would not make too much fun of them....
soooo very true.

Oh ya thats right. When he finally gunned it as we were leaving. Sorry, I just love making fun of CO mountain hillbilies. It was more the fact that one of em tried to talk down to me.
thats not the WHOLE story, and you know it. they didnt "talk down to you" untill you had to "show them up" and make a rude comment to them.

ummm.. wow. That looks like way too much fun. :driving:

Do I need a lift and locker to do this or will 4x4 be enough?

I didnt make a rude comment to them. You're right, I'm sorry. Itwas still funny though and that one guy was really nice. I have a cousin who acts and even looks just like them so it's hard for me not to want to show them up on the trails cause my cousin has a bronco that would whip the crap out of anyone.

I have no lft but I do have a locker. I did use my locker a few times but you dont need it to go wheelin, just to do the really hard stuff.

Come on, Matt...remember, anyone who take his/her rig off-road should all be friends...not many of us around these days...and you certainly don't want to piss off the very people that you may need help from one day.

Matt, since you think that a 4runner can hang with a Rubicon off-road, why don't you invite yourself to one of the Rubicon club outings...plenty where you live i am sure. Trust me, you will be embarrassed rather quickly. The Rubi driver that you had in your group is apparently new to the sport...and he did everything one of the 4runner's experienced driver did...that already says a lot about the Rubicon. Just add in an equivalently experienced driver and the Rubi will dominate. I have been out with the Rubicon club a few times here in Texas and they do things that i would not even dare do in my G-wagen. There are things that a short-wheelbase, short overhang, fully locked 4:1 low range vehicle do that our vehicle cannot...and my G is fully locked too.

You want to hear a story? My brother has a 2003 Rubicon mostly stock except for 32" BFG MT. He also has a FJ CRuiser. Anyway, because he owns a FJ, he took his Rubicon (with permission) to one of the FJ Trail Team outing here in TX. The head driver of the FJ Trail Team was a rather experienced and well-known member of a TLC forum. He drove a Toyota-supplied 3" lifted FJ Cruiser with super A-TRAC and rear locker and big 35" tires...and fully armored. His other driver was also experienced and equipped the same way...these guys go around the country to show what the FJ can do. Anyway, over a local obstacle at a local park, both of the leading FJ CRuisers (driven by the Trail Team leader and his partner) needed either winching or over 30 min of attempts before making it up. My brother's Rubicon made up the exact same challenging hill in one attempt. Everyone was shocked. Both Trail Team leaders admitted that off-road, the Rubicon is simply better. My brother is a good driver, but his experience level is not up there with those Trail Team guys. And you know what? My brother's rear locker that day was NOT working! So, he only had his front locker and a rear Torsen LSD working. (As you may know, a rear locker is much more important than a front locker in a hillclimb.)

I think that you need to off-road with the Rubicon guys to really see what a Rubicon can do.

nice pictures, and looks like it was fun. on the side note, you seem like a little rude, cocky kid, reading all your posts in threads

My motto is to be respectful to everyone out there. You never know when you may need their help, or if you will be at the business end of a 12 ga. There's some crazy SOBs out there.

AMEN, we as a rule, will stop if we see anyone (no matter who or what they drive) needs any help, as we generally have enough tools, food and water, for a few days, lol.
infact, there was a ford that was broke down, coming up that rocky section, so we pull over, make sure they dont need help or anything, they was real greatfull, but they was done with the fix, just tightening up the last bolt, then his buddy came over to thank me for making sure they are ok, got it under control :bigok:
I hate when wheelers see a vehicle on the side of the trail, with the hood up or wrenching on something and no ones stops, we are all 4wheelers, off-roaders, what ever ya want to call it :bigok:

First of all, I'm not a kid, I'm probably older than you, but you are very right. I am a very cocky person especially when it comes to my Toyotas, but dont get me wrong, I will always help out a fellow offroader. Im not just cocky but I am very arrogant, I have way to much pride and I am quite the show-off.

So on that note, here's a personal background story.
My whole life I have grown up around 4X4's and things that go fast. I raced ATV's the better part of my life and I have always had some kind of offroading vehicle. As I mentioned earlier, I have a cousin named Corey who shared all the same passions and pretty much did everything that I did. My first car (believe it or not) was a 96 Jeep Cherokee. His first car was a Jeep Wrangler. When I was 7 years old my parents got me a piece of crap 1987 Yamaha Warrior ATV. When Corey was 7 years old (1 year later) my aunt and uncle bought him a brand new Yamaha Blaster. So as you can see already, everything I do, my cousin follows in my foot steps, which in most cases is a cool thing. But with Corey and I, Corey was always better. We raced 11 races together over 2 seasons in ATV racing and Corey always placed ahead of me. Which to most people is not a problem, but Corey loved to rub it in my face. Even to this day, if you want to meet the most arrogant, cocky, prideful douche bag you've ever met, I'll introduce you some time. When it really started to bother me was when were 9 and 8 years old and we both got drum sets for christmas. Every few months or so we would see each other and of course Corey would whoop my ass at the drums. Then over a good 7 year span, I really took an interest in the drums and what drove me was just being better than Corey. At 18 years old on Christmas eve, we were at my house for dinner and I had my drum set, set up. At this time I hadnt seen Corey in about 2 years cause his family moved to Wyoming. Anyways, Corey sits down at my drum set and starts playing his heart out, intensionally just to show off to me, but my eyes lit up and the biggest grin grew across my face because I was so much better than him. I immediately kicked him off and started play, meanwhile turning to him while I was playing and started making fun of him. He got this pissed off look in his face and took off. I felt great, and from then on I made it a point to do everything better than him and to throw it in his face just so I could see that light die in his eyes.
Last year, I came home from living in California for a few months and I get a call from my parents almost the second I got of the plane. They told me that I needed to come straight to their house. I show up and my parents sit me down and tell me that 2 week prior, they attended Coreys wedding. I was unaware that Corey even had a girlfriend. They tell me that when they got the invitation there was a special note attached to theirs that said to call my aunt and uncle as soon as they got the invite. So my parents call and my aunt tells them to make sure that I don't come and that Corey had specifcally told my aunt not to invite me because he thought I would ruin his wedding day. My heart instantly sunk and I felt the worst feeling I think Ive ever felt before. Not only did I miss my cousins wedding but I was perposefully not invited. Now I was raised in a Christian family but I never really took it seriously until about a little less than a year ago and I have specifically targeted my cockyness, pridefulness and arrogance and have been working on this for quite a long time. After that day I felt so terrible that I went for a drive up into the mountains to think about what I have done. 6 months ago I finally built up the courage to go see my cousin for the first time in 3 years and appologize. We sat in his living room for 4 hours talking about our lives and how this all happened, and I came to the conclusion that I suck. I am still working on my attitude and lately I've gotten worse but it's things like this that I am actually greatful for cause it makes me realize what Im doing.
For all of you who dont know, I am a recording artist for Warner Bros. I basicly write the precussion and most of the time play the drims for solo artists. As part of my job I have to spend hours upon days upon weeks in the recording studio and I have a lot of downtime that consists of me sitting in the studio waiting for the sound engineer to set everything up for me to start recording again. I used to just sit around and do nothing then one day I stumbled upon this website and have been hooked ever since. So to put it simply you all are pretty much the only people I have to talk to pretty much all day every day, so as weird as it sounds I really do care what you all think of me cause you're the only people I have to talk. I cant talk to the sound engineer cause he has to use his ears to listen to my drums not my mouth and my producers an ass and all he ever wants to talk about is music, which after 6 years of going to school for it and doing it every single day as a career, there really isnt anything more that I want to hear about it. So as to my earlier statement about the rednecks, my cousin is a hardcore redneck so when I see them I automaticly go into show-off mode which I need to learn not to, and over the years of having to compete with my cousin for bragging rights, I tend to do it to everyone all the time, which I also need to learn not to. Just know that first of all every thing I say or do on this website is with the best intensions in mind, I just end up sounding like a jerk most of the time. So after all that I want to appologize to everyone and also thank you all for letting me know that Im a douche cause it helps me keep myself in check. oh and on a side note, as to some of my earlier posts, I've just gotten a little irritated lately over how much people have been wanting to start arguments with me, I know its not right but thats just something that gets me steamed for some reason but again I appologize and I will also work on that too.

Well to clear it up, I never made a rude comment. He told me he only had $2000 in the suburban trying to show me the suburban was a cheaper build. Then I told him my 4runner was stock, then he said "ya but toyotas come stock with nice good 4wheeling equipment" and I told him that, my nice 4wheeling equipment is what the guy in the sububan should have spent that $2000 on. I dont see anything rude about that. but yet again this is probably another case of me trying to give addvice but ending up sounding like an ass.

Here's my final verdict between the Rubicon and the 4Runner. Yes the Rubicon as a vehicle can outwheel a 4runner, but after what I saw my 4Runner do on Saturday, I have to give the 4Runner a close second. Because, in stock form, the Rubicon does great offroad, even better than an H1 Hummer, but of coarse as everyone know it lacks dependability and on-road drivability. The 4Runner, in stock form, accomplished some offroad feats that I didn't think would be possible but it still couldnt go as far as the Rubicon, not that far behind but still behind. And as everyone knows, pretty much anything built by Toyota has great dependability and better on-road drivability. And eventhough everyone may think that my, wanting to make my 4runner fast, is ridiculous, it is very possible and quite easy, but with a Rubicon, its not very easy or probable. So I will give it to the Rubicon but I still will take any Toyota, and I mean ANY Toyota over a Jeep any day.

Oh and as to the resale value.
I sold my 2000 Tacoma V6 w/ sas at 195000 miles for $7000.
Id like to see a Jeep last 195000 miles

Hint: there are more than a few vehicles between the Rubicon and the 4runner in off-road capability..... :p Actually, as the terrain gets rougher, the gap between the Rubicon and 4runner widens quite a bit.

BTW, you would rank your 4runner ahead of Hummer H1 in off-road capability???? Wow, that is ambitious! :D

Rubicon fast? Well, AEV Conversions can put in a Hemi into the Wrangler Rubicon: http://www.aev-conversions.com/vehicles/jk_wrangler.php

Like i said in a previous post, resale value for a Wrangler is right up there with the best of Toyotas!

For example, using KBB, i optioned out this 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with some goodies (to match the goodies on your Tacoma as much as i can)...same mileage, etc...and this is what i get for private party pricing:

Excellent
$7,875

Good
$7,300

Fair
$6,600

You can give or take a few dollars here and there, but you get my point...the Wranglers hold their value extremely well, on-par if not a little bit better than Toyotas.

Also, remember, the guy who bought the Wrangler in 2000 probably paid LESS than what you paid for your Tacoma...yet, he still matched your sale price.

Anyone that tells you a Jeep isnt good offroad is an idiot. But I would choose a lifted toyota over a Jeep any day for one reason... Jeeps are a dime a dozen. I cant even leave my apartment without seeing a lifted Jeep. They are everywhere. I'd rather have a very capable unique toyota than an everyday lifted Jeep.

well that not true, and your know it....
heres what happened from my eyes. our group was just about done playing on that rock slab, its named The Wall, there was only 2 rigs still playing, the rest of us was done and lined up for a group photo, along with you Matt. At that popint, the 3 suburbans pulled up and stopped at the top of the hill, got out and told Glen that they will wait there, untill we are done, they didnt want to get in our way, (IMHO thats shows respect, common curtisy and CLASS) Glen told them, we appriciate that, but we are just about done, to go ahead and head down there.
Thats when the suburban was trying to make it up the wall, I was standing out of my vehicle talking to Andrew, watching them, and you came up and asked "should I show them what a toyota can do" I said NO, turned around, and you was trying to balze up The Wall, (Glan and the other Mat was on the racl watchingand taking pics) they said that as you drive up it wrecklessly, you told the suburbans spotter "thats how a toyota does it" (IMHO, that was very rude, and our group as a whole look like shit, after you was told NOT to) thats when he said, "not everyone can afford a fancy new toyota"

we have people now, that do NOT want to wheel with us, due to your actions and comments.

Word. Being a kid is a lot more a mindset than a magical age. I have a 33 year-old friend that is way more of a kid than I am at 22. I had a kid young (20) and was forced to grow up and learn how to work hard for what I have and now I have a hard time relating to people such as yourself, and an easier time relating to people in their 30's who have put in time and learned what it takes to support a family and work for everything. The sooner you realize, the better off you will be.
