More fire to an old post:

DRLs are fine. I like that my Runner's are the amber turn signal lamps instead of low intensity high-beams...that's my take on it.


And to think, folks on here are railing on and on about "glare" and whatnot from DRLs, yet there are pages and PAGES of threads and replies in this forum on upgrading to HIDs and other genuinely blinding headlights that can endanger anyone that meets their vehicle while they're using them...Go figure. So we're supposed to be OK with forcing folks off the night time roadways with poorly aimed, over-powered HID headlamps but whine about some daytime glare from DRLs? Makes no sense to me.

DRL make sense, especially at certain times of day, certain climates, or certain weather. The amber 4Runner ones are a better comprimize than the dimmed high beams, but I find it hard to believe anyone is blinded by them.
In the end, I believe, based on my own experiences, that we are better off with them than without them.

After reading this I went out today and tried to notice people behind me with DRL's and I don't understand why this is even being debated. How can somebody's headlight or amber light bother a driver?

1) You look in the rear- view for about a tenth of a second at a time, a quick glance is not enough to be blinded or distracted by someone behind you.

2) The headlights don't even really have an effect in the daytime since the light is washed out by the sun.

3) I don't even look in the rear view that often. The only mirrors needed are the side mirrors in which the DRL's really didn't bother me.

I'm sorry, I'm probably missing something but I just don't understand the fuss. I drive with my headlights on all day long to keep my tinted tails lit so I don't get blue lighted. I have no problem with people behind me who choose to run their headlights.

Toyota as well as most manufacturers went with a dedicated light for DRL's nearly a decade ago. My old 2000 GMC Yukon had a dedicated white bulb underneath the headleight assembly as a DRL. My current 2nd vehicle, a 2008 Suburban also has the smaller dedicated white bulb. Perhaps this change was a result of the "glare" problem? Personally, I like 'em. Give people better visibility, especially in dusk or dawn situations where people always forget the law about turning on headlights 30 minutes after sunrise and 30 minutes before sunset.
