It's funny because I went through quite a few options before I decided on a 4runner. I went from wanting a Ford Explorer Trac, to a Jeep, to a hummer, to a runner, then I stayed on the idea of a 4runner for like 6 months before I bought one. Man did I luck out!

to be honest, if i had had more $, i would have gotten an extended cab tacoma, but since i couldnt afford one, i got a 4runner lol...now i still want a tacoma but i LOVE my runner

I love my chrome chrome bumpers. I wouldn feel good driving a 4th gen with those painted bumpers through tall brush!

I feel the exact same way. I always tell my gf that I would feel better running into something with my metal bumpers, it just gives me a sense of security.

also I think my 4Runner looks the best.

The only reason 4th gens would have better traction is because they have a wider stance, which plays into the offroading opinions of 3rd gens being better because they are skinnier.

WTF does wider stance have anything to do with traction?

But 4th gens are significantly heavier than 3rd gens, so it would have a bit of an advantage. Similar to how a pickup is at a disadvantage in traction on snow unless they weigh down the back.

4th Gen is 200lbs heavier than the 3rd Gen. V8 models are 200lbs on top of that. Not that much weight difference, if you ask me. None that will get you any significant advantage in mud, anyway. Also, on a side note, the F150 weighs ~5500lbs--1000+lbs heavier than the 4th and 3rd Gen.

Lastly, I don't get why you guys are bashing Jeeps and other vehicles? My friends have/had Jeeps, Dodge (diesel trucks), Chevy, etc. My father has always owned GMC's and all see above 300k miles with no big troubles. My friend has a Jeep with over 250k and it still starts right up (and he's ABUSED that thing, too.) They all had their pros and cons, just like our Toyota's. I've personally owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and didn't think it was THAT bad. It was fast and had SFA, which I wish my 4Runner has. I just hate to see people that are so blinded by a brand name to say something so ignorant like, "

Dont take that kind of stuff seriously, this board is far from being completely anti-non-Toyota. Its just friendly rivalry, thats all.
I went to an organized trail ride last month and there were 36 Jeeps, 2 Suzukis and my Toyota. Naturally, I got many 'smart-ass' comments and so did the zook guys, but really, no one gives a sh*t what you drive as long as you wheel hard and don't be a knob head.

Well I drove 2 fords before I had enough money to buy my new 4runner. Had one at 16, then a different one around my highschool graduation, and then a few months after that I ditched the POS for a brand new 4runner. On top of owning 2 fords, I have many miles of experience with jeeps also, being that both my step dad and a few friends own them.

If your "experiences" are good enough to back them up, then why can't others "experiences" be enough to state the opposite about them?

Like techno said, this forum is just friendly rivalry and if your experiences are good enough for you, then who cares?
